#35 How to walk into the USA (and why) - with emigrant Will (Guatelama City)

It happened on a balmy evening in Guatemala City. I was looking for a supermarket and met Will by coincidence in the streets, who kindly accompanied me all the way home to my friends place. Will is a young Guatemalan, full of hope and longing for a better life. He is betting on the U.S., but at the same time he is realist enough to understand the limits of his imagination. I was amazed by his mental strength: to make his way across the border of his own country on foot, without money, tickets or contacts in the USA, battered by heat, hunger and thirst, in search of a better life impressed me deeply. The conversation with Will also showed me how strongly faith can move mountains. Will stands for me for what we can achieve in life if we only believe in it. We can't achieve everything, because the final spark to success for me is called luck, chance or fate, but without any of these it becomes difficult. Central and South America is permeated with a density of faith that shows how great the influence of the (European) church still is today. While we in Europe have empty pews, faith is still firmly anchored in everyday life there. At the same time, in my personal opinion, faith also means exercising power, keeping quiet and possibly also accepting difficult political and economic circumstances as "given by God". In the search for a right life, there is no right answer. I hope you enjoy this spontaneous audio recording. Perhaps it can give you insights into a world that is hard to put yourself in. I was touched by it and it still makes me think and reflect. If you like the podcast, I would love for you to subscribe to stay up to date. Every like is appreciated as it lets me know to keep on doing what I am doing. Thank you for sharing the time together. #34 How to build a house in the clouds that is grounded enough to make you feel home - with artist and film maker Veronica Riedel

At my favorite hour, the blue hour, I met with German-Guatemalan artist and filmmaker Veronica Riedel in her penthouse. During tea and cake, I asked if she would spontaneously like to be interviewed as part of my podcast. To my great delight, she agreed. Again, it was a special honor to be able to exchange ideas with such a creative, smooth, intelligent and empathetic person. Thank you so much, dear Veronica! During the hour of our conversation, our thoughts circled around the topic of "home" in particular. But not only that, we also talked about the following topics: - Stories from the film business and art life - Relation between men and women and their key differences - Meaning of self love in life - Process of transformation from a loving mother/wife to a career in art and film - Feeling sensual within yourself - The role of post motherhood - Expectation about life and how to manage them - Balance of masculine and feminine energy - Dreams, manifestation and surprises in life - Humility, teaching and sisterhoods I am happy to share this podcast episode with you and welcome any feedback, suggestions and interview ideas. #33 Opera and spirituality: Connecting to the animal within us - live at a river bank, Guatemala, with professional Opera singer Anthony Pinkerton

It happened early one evening, just before sunset. Down at the riverbank adjacent to the tropical Jungle, I spotted a bearded gentleman doing situps with a heavy log on his shoulders. A picture for G ods. We got into a conversation that interweaves the topics of opera, sexuality, and spirituality. Anthony Pinkerton born 1999 in Orlando, Florida (USA), has been spending four years studying voice performance at a world class conservatory of music, Westminster Choir College. During his time in conservatory, his voice teacher was also a yoga teacher, encouraging him to bridge the gap between singing and spirituality. Since graduating in ‘21, he quit his jobs, put his New Jersey apartment up for rent, and booked a one way flight ticket to Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. It is here where he took a deep dive into the practice of yoga. Since then, he teaches yoga seven days a week and offers holistic healing practices. #32 Talking about humanity, power and politics – with Guatemalan politician and business man Diego Arzu Garcia-Granados

Without a doubt one of the most exciting interviewees I could ever imagine: Diego Arzu Garcia-Granados. Mentally flexible, intelligent and intellectual, charming and open. Diego is not only the son of former Guatemalan president and mayor of Guatemala City Álvaro Arzú Irigoyen, but also served himself as deputy to the Central American Parliament from 2016 to 2020. He was raised in a family where political talk was and continues to be the order of the day. Diego knows the international arena of politics and economic interdependence as well as few. The common exchange led us from the historical heritage of the Maya to the beauty of mental diversity to father-son love & so much more.Thank you, dear Diego, for your time, your authenticity and most of all, thank you for making your words so richly filled with ideas and inspiration during our conversation. With love, Corinna-RosaWhat you can do if you like the podcast:1. #31 Sex before marriage: Talking privately from (a Muslim) woman to (a non-Muslim) woman perspective - live from a market in Lombok, Indonesia

It was on a hot afternoon when I made a stop with my scooter in a small town in the north of Lombok. The ride was exhausting and I was tired. Since I was traveling alone, I decided to stroll through the local market in hopes of grabbing a chilled coconut. As I did so, I noticed a woman not taking her eyes off me, even following me slightly. I walked up to her and a conversation ensued.Today I found it again in my archives and would like to share it with you. Why?Because it shows me how differently we are programmed, myself included. The short but intense conversation shows me how we are shaped by our culture, our environment and the people we love. The young woman has never left Lombok. Lombok, a heavily Muslim Indonesian island, where in the north women are kidnapped from their families of origin by their future husbands when they reach puberty. They end up in a forced marriage, not knowing what awaits them there, including their first wedding night. I was struck by the openness of the conversation. It shows how curious and searching the human spirit is. The idea of having sex unmarried, especially as a woman, is largely non-existent there. I may also mention that the woman reaches a social rank only through marriage, which also grants her rights. Only a marriage makes a woman a real woman there. At the same time, it also shows how I too am mentally limited and trapped. The interview was taken in the spring of 2021.I hope you can take something away for yourself from today’s podcast episode. Feel free to share it, hit the subscribe button or leave a review. I look forward to hearing from you. See you soon, Corinna-RosaWhat you can do:1. SUBSCRIBE to The Human Project Podcast.2.
