Episode 317.5: NUANCE – Meet the Queens of UK vs the World
Nuance, the Alright Mary aftershow, is back this season for follow-up discussions and tangents on not only Season 14 but also the brand new UK vs the World season starting on February 1st! We’re kicking this week off by queening out on the 9 international queens returning (or in one queen’s case, moving to the other side of the judges panel) for some All Star style stunts and shenanigans. Then we catch up on some additional takes on that massive runway this week, send some love to the international seasons not featured in the upcoming season and imagine Michelle Visage as a Sesame Street neighbor.

Episode 317: Season 14 Episode 3 – A Pair of Balls
This week we’re back to 14 queens, and just in time for not just one but two balls! With three categories each, that’s 42 looks on the runway. But frankly, most of the highlights for us this week were in the workroom. Whether it was the sisterly bonding over bugs and backstories, the TV ready banter or the emerging “What kind of teacher would she be?” energy, we could have focused on painting all day. Meanwhile a bittersweet twist is added in the form of 14 chocolate bars, one gold ticket and horn sound effect we just can’t get enough of.

Episode 316: Season 14 Episode 2 – Big Opening No. 2
The only thing better than one big opening is of course two big openings! This week seven more queens sashay into the cultural landscape of Drag Race, including of course the much discussed Miss Morphosis. We do have much to say about Maddy this week, from Ru’s interactions with her to the chords she didn’t quite strike in talent show. There’s also a brief rant/tangent on “And Just Like That” and the less said about “Schitt’s Creek” the better, but we also take a number of guesses at who these queens look like out of drag, we identify the goose of the season, queen out on the perils of Aunt DeJa and enjoy a brief but bittersweet case of Daya Betty.

Episode 315: Season 14 Episode 1 – Big Opening No. 1
Season 14 kicks off with a split premiere featuring seven new queens, Best Supporting Lizzo, a talent show and a surprising number of quotes just waiting to be driven into the ground. (By either RuPaul or us.) While it’s taking the Jambalaya a bit to heat up, Kornbread comes in hot, sweet and gif-able from the get-go. Alyssa Hunter looks like quite a Chase but her air guitar doesn’t strike a chord, Bosco petals burlesque on the runway and great commentator energy in the talking heads, Kerrie jumps rope but could easily jump networks, Orion calls Ru on her hamburger phone but the connection is cut short and Willow Pill inspires an unfortunate amount of baby talk. (By both Ru and us.)

Episode 314: Season 14 – Meet the Queens
We’re kicking off what’s shaping up to be the draggiest year on television with Season 14 of RuPaul’s Drag Race! The competition premieres on January 7th, but this week we’re catching up on the newest batch of queens to enter both the workroom and the pop culture landscape of this show. Much has been said about the casting of Maddy Morphosis, and we have much to make of the topic, but we also have a baker’s dozen other amazing competitors, from the PNW’s Bosco to Kornbread Jete from LA, to feast on. There’s so many food puns this season, we may not have room for that magical RuPaul chocolate bar we keep hearing about…

Episode 313: The Mary Christmas Triple Feature
We couldn’t choose just one holiday movie to queen out on this year, so we chose three–an old favorite of ours, this year’s Popular Mainstream Gay Holiday Movie and a camp classic that is destined to be a future tradition. We’re starting with 2000’s “A Diva’s Christmas Carol,” featuring more than one alum of the Drag Race judges panel, a particularly thicc Bob Crachett and a bonkers final act. Then we move on to “Single All the Way,” with a questionable central love story saved by Jennifer Coolidge at her Christopher Guest best as Aunt Sandy. We wrap things up with 1988’s “Christmas at Pee-wee’s Playhouse,” featuring the absurdly subversive Paul Reubens and guest stars ranging from Joan Rivers, Grace Jones, Charo, Oprah, Magic Johnson, CHER, and more. (To say nothing of the gay undertones of Little Richard in the woods and all those fruit cakes!)

Great recap pod
I was thirsty for another recap pod and his hits the spot! FYI: there IS a really terrible German drag tv show called “Queen of Drags” that was filmed in LA, and hosted by Heidi Klum (despite a petition to have her removed as the host by German queers....). It was an interesting take on this type of show but ultimately.... bad.

I work night shifts at a hotel, and this podcast is one of the few things keeping me awake! Very down to earth, witty content with a substance in its core! Love you guys!

The best drag race podcast. Over the last year I have totally fallen for Colin and Johnny and their wonderful take on Drag Race. They can be critical and go deep into the issues surrounding the show but they also see it for the silly, fabulous creation that it is.
