We’re back with a new country for our Around the World series on 1020 Radio! This time we’re taking to Haiti 🇭🇹 for a tour through the native sounds of konpas direk, mini-jazz and mizik rasin. Despite it’s small size, Haitian music has made waves all over the globe. The irresistible danceability of konpas transcends borders and language - even in Haiti it’s sun in Créole, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese etc etc. Far from being a one trick poney, konpas has constantly evolved to keep audiences moving, first by introducing guitars during the mini-jazz movement, more recently incorporating drum machines and synthesizers as disco took the world. We tried to keep a balance of big hits and deeper cuts so check out the tracklist if you liked anything and as always support the artists if you can!
