E55 Friendship is important so don't lose it!

E55 Friendship is important so don't lose it!

As time goes on, I realize how important friendship really is. And I also see how so many of us give up on friendships or let them just fade away because life gets busy and we don't see at the time how big a deal friendship really is. There are all different kinds of friends. Some are meant to be forever friends, and some are meant to be in our lives for a season. But we all know those people we have stopped connecting with for one reason or another. Sometimes that is just for the best. Other times, we know that we aren't willing to give up on that relationship and, in that case, we need to reconnect and keep that friendship. If someone comes to mind for you during this episode, reach our to that person and find a way to reconnect. You will be glad you did!

E54 Listen to your gut... sooner!

E54 Listen to your gut... sooner!

Have you ever had that feeling that something isn't right? If you are like me, you've had that feeling and chosen to ignore it. Call it your gut, your intuition, the still small voice, or God, but it is there for all of us. I can look back on times in my life that it is so clear I didn't listen to that voice and lost my inner integrity. I knew something or someone was wrong for me, but I chose to ignore my gut and go for it anyway. I am telling you from experience that that voice is there for a very good reason. It helps us stay true to ourselves and what we believe to be right. So, the next time you aren't sure about something in your life, stop and really listen. Feel that proverbial tug on your sleeve and ask why. You just might avoid making a really big mistake.

E53 Empty nesting is (still) weird...2.0

E53 Empty nesting is (still) weird...2.0

I got such a huge response from last week's episode that I decided to keep the conversation going. I think part of the reason it seems weird when all the kids fly the coop is that we lose our reason to be part of something. When we are momming, we are part of something bigger than ourselves. Then, suddenly, it's over, just like that. But the reality is, we didn't want to be mommed (or dadded) at their age, so we need to be aware of when it's time to be hands off and let them adult. This is our time to be US - whoever that may be!

    E52 Empty nesting is weird...

    E52 Empty nesting is weird...

We raise the kids and raise the kids and raise the kids and then bam! They're all grown up! It is a good thing to have adult kids who are valuable members of society, but now what? For me, it has made me change my aim and start looking forward to finding purpose in other things. It has made me thankful for them and the lives that they are living. I think it's normal to feel that weirdness. Just know that you are not alone. Let it be weird. Let yourself feel it and take it in. But also let yourself explore new things, or maybe old things, to be excited about. We don't just have one purpose. We have many. So, pat yourself on the back for raising them well and try to see that there is more exciting stuff to do!

E51 Something nagging at you? Ask why!

E51 Something nagging at you? Ask why!

A few months ago, I was ruminating about past events and regrets I have. It was getting annoying, as ruminating often does, because I felt like it was a useless waste of time. In my frustration, I went to bed asking, "What do I do with this? What is the point?" I woke up the next morning with an answer. The lesson I learned in doing this was that sometimes we just need to ask the question. If we ask the question, the answer will come, one way or another. So, if there is something weighing on you, nagging at you, ask! The answer you get may set you on a new and completely unexpected path!

    E50 Stop being a martyr!

    E50 Stop being a martyr!

How many times have you signed up for things and then complained about it the whole time? I know I have been there... lots of times. For some reason, we really like to feel sorry for ourselves, even if we are the ones who fully caused the situation we are in! Guess what? All those things we signed up for were choices. We could have said no but we didn't; sometimes because we really wanted to complain. Let's stop feeling sorry for ourselves and sign up when we really want to or feel the need to. Let's start asking for help and allowing others to be a part of something good as well. Let's stop being martyrs and start being team players who understand that many hands make light work!
