Hockey and Hounds an exclusive weekly discussion of Flyers hockey right from the point of view of the Flyers bench boss John Tortorella. Along with the hockey talk comes Tortorella’s passion for animal welfare. Each week the team will partner with Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA) and Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) for an adoptable animal along with events and news happening to get involved within the animal community. Hockey & Hounds is a must listen for animal lovers and hockey fans who want inside information on the team coming directly from Coach Tortorella.

    Hockey & Hounds - Meet Tiberius

    John Tortorella joins Jason Myrtetus from Montreal, where he's preparing for the Four Nations Tournament as an assistant coach with Team USA. They discuss the events leading up to the tournament, including Guy Gaudreau joining as a special guest coach, as well as the USA roster and what it was like watching the Eagles win the Super Bowl. This week we feature Tiberius, a special senior pit bull mix looking for his forever home at the PSPCA. Tiberius is blind and was found wandering the streets of Germantown, where he was picked up and put into the PSPCA's care. Tiberius needed some emergency medical treatment to address bladder stones and an infection, but that's behind him now and he is recovering. Tiberius is a sweet, blind pup with a big personality, a sweet, gentle soul and a lot of heart. The PSPCA veterinary staff calls him “the perfect angel baby,” and every day, they see his kind heart shining through. Despite his lack of sight, he quickly picks up on new routines and enjoys interacting with people. He thrives on verbal cues and is learning how to navigate the world in his own way. But no dog should spend their senior years in a shelter, and Tiberius deserves more than this. He deserves a safe home, full of love and peace, where he can live out his days surrounded by the care he’s always needed. His journey hasn’t been easy. He’s blind, lost, and facing the twilight of his life without the comfort of a family to call his own. But together, we can change that.     Jason Myrtetus chatted with head coach John Tortorella the day before the final game before the Four Nations break against Pittsburgh. They talked about the aftereffects of the Morgan Frost/Joel Farabee trade, the recent play of Sam Ersson and the upcoming break. This week PAWS has asked us to re-visit Frog! Frog is around 10 years old and arrived to Philly PAWS last spring because his beloved owner passed away. He was so deeply loved by his owner and we are hoping to find someone who will adore this senior pup the same way. Frog has lived with a relaxed dog and cat in the past, so we think he could do so again with proper introduction. Being a 10 year old pup, Frog would love to live in a home without a lot of stairs for him to climb. He does have some arthritis in his legs, but you would never know it with the way he loves to chase a squeaky toy. It's an exciting week as we feature a litter of nine puppies that need homes through the PSPCA! This litter of Great Pyrenees mix puppies was found in a box in a Lower Merion park before the holidays. They needed some medical attention and some baths but are now working towards being ready for homes. They're named after nine Flyers - Coots, Laughts, TK, Sanny, Seels, Hath, Catesy, Mich, and Ers.     In a special episode of Hockey & Hounds, we meet Anthony Rothman of 97.1 The Fan in Columbus, OH, who started the original Hockey & Hounds show with John Tortorella in 2016. The two met up ahead of the December 10 game against the Blue Jackets and joined Jason Myrtetus via teleconference. Phil is a mixed-breed brindle found as a stray that is in a PAWS foster home. He has the goofy exuberance of a puppy who thinks life is one big party. Phil gets along well with other dogs, and enjoys playtime and couch cuddles with equal enthusiasm. He'd especially benefit from a yard to romp around in since he's a strong boy on leash, but he means well and will be thrilled to join you for any outdoor activity (or any activity really, he's just happy to be here)! This week we meet Max, a mixed-breed pittie/bulldog who has been looking for a home since about the same time Torts arrived in Philadelphia - since August of 2022. Max is a sweet and playful pup who loves nothing more than snuggling up with his favorite stuffy toys. He has a special fondness for them and his tail will wag excitedly whenever he sees one. Despite his goofy nature, Max is a quick learner and is working on a training plan with his friends to become the best version of himself.
