He also talks to us about practical applications for teacher-made apps in the language classroom and his own future plans in this sphere.

In this episode, Matthew Turner answers some questions about an AR-based project for tourism majors he conducted at his university, as well as his thoughts on using this technology for tourism and educational purposes. Also, Chris Hastings interviews Dr. Siew Ming Thang (HELP University, Kuala Lumpur), one of the plenary speakers at JALT PanSIG 2019, about current MAVR-related trends in teaching and research.

In this podcast, we hear a recording of Eric Hawkinson’s talk at SXSWedu from Austin, Texas in March, 2019., as well as an interview with educator and freelance programmer JR.

Eric discusses how immersive technologies are not new to learning and teaching, but that the move to ubiquity of AR/AI/VR and other related tools are being touted as the way forward, quickly being deployed to classrooms and other learning environments. His talk lays out some of those promises and give some rational, fair-minded, and cautionary counterpoints to commercial dogma in this space, giving some hints and tools to help developers and educators as technology seeps into our learning cultures.

Eric’s interview with JR delves into the thoughts and impressions of a coder new to AR development (related to his work with Eric’s ARientation app), and explores his thoughts as an educator on how VR/AR/MR could be implemented in the K12 classroom and what hurdles it may face.
