Kings and Queens in Quarantine Kayla Gagnon

- Gesellschaft und Kultur
Once the queer nightclubs closed to prevent the spread of COVID-19, drag performers have had to adapt their art to a digital stage. I will be interviewing drag performers of all kinds about this situation, and what they think will happen next in the world of drag.

Marti Gould Cummings
I had the pleasure of interviewing Marti Gould Cummings, a talented drag queen and an outspoken activist. They were among the thousands of people who protested for Black Lives Matter, and they put their body on the line for the movement and got arrested. They are also running for New York City Council in 2021 for the 7th District.

Luke Modelo
Luke Modelo came on the show back in May at the start of quarantine. We talked about what is it like to shelter in place at your childhood home as a queer person when it doesn’t feel like home anymore, mental health during quarantine, and how he mixes his Latinx background into his style of drag.

Chap Charlie
This week I welcomed into the virtual studio Chap Charlie from St. Paul, Minnesota. They are a non-binary person and performer, and Minnesota’s most eclectic drag king. We talked about their experience as a non-binary drag performer, as well as how they have been translating their stage performances to an online setting.
EDIT: Since the recording of this episode, Chap has taken a step back from drag. They said: "I haven’t been performing as Chap since the protests began and I’m still assessing if there is a place for another white king in the scene."
Instead of tipping, they'd like people to donate to the organizations listed in this link: https://secure.everyaction.com/zae4prEeKESHBy0MKXTIcQ2
