Peter Gray How to build a school

    • Bildung

My guest for this episode is the author and psychologist Peter Gray. Peter is a leading voice in evolutionary psychology, play, education and self-directed learning.
Throughout our conversation Peter presents his compelling critique of the schooling system and shares evidence he's gathered over the last 50 years that alternatives do exist and work! at the core of his philosophy is permission for us all to step back and allow children the freedom to direct their own learning.
Peter’s book Free to Learn is one of the most important books that I've read as an educator, as a parent and actually as a human being because it speaks to the fundamental way that we experience the world.  Through nature, through civilisation and through the institutions that as a society we have created.
His work and writing in general has created a theoretical anchor from which to develop the practices that I instinctively know benefit young people but haven't been able to articulate.
This is a long episode! But I believe it’s worth every minute . Enjoy!!
