    Highlights -

    Android 12 is here, and it looks and feels different. During Tuesday’s I/O 2021 keynote, Google unveiled a new version of Android with a refreshed look. This is the first time since 2014 Google has tweaked the appearance of the interface, bringing a personalised touch to Android. Available as a public beta, Android 12 includes many more new features, including new privacy options, better performance and battery life. In addition to this, the company announced that soon Android users will be able to use their smartphones as their car keys. 

    The company in a blog post said that it is working with car manufacturers to develop a new digital car key in Android 12. With this feature, users will be able to lock, unlock and start their cars using their Android smartphones.

    Google’s latest foray into health care is a web tool that uses artificial intelligence to help people identify skin, hair, or nail conditions. The company previewed the tool at I/O today, and it says it hopes to launch a pilot later this year. People can use their phone’s camera to take three pictures of the problem area — for example, a rash on their arm. They’ll then answer a series of questions about their skin type and other symptoms. The tool then gives a list of possible conditions from a set of 288 that it’s trained to recognize.

    Lofelt, in partnership with Qualcomm, announced that it’s making its VTX haptic framework available to OEMs, with the hope that these manufacturers will start putting better haptics into more Android devices.

    Qualcomm has announced a new 700-series chipset for mobile devices: the Snapdragon 778G 5G. It will start appearing in premium midrange phones from manufacturers including Motorola, Xiaomi, Realme, Honor, Oppo, and iQOO in the next few months, bringing with it some video capture and AI capabilities borrowed from the Snapdragon 888, the current chipset of choice for flagship Android phones. The company has also made a couple of other announcements today designed to get 5G connectivity into more tech.

    Spotify is entering the virtual concert business, just as in-person concerts are becoming more of a possibility. The company announced today that people can now buy tickets to five different concert streams, which will air throughout May and June. Initial artists include The Black Keys, Jack Antonoff of Bleachers, and Leon Bridges. The streams all are prerecorded but can only be viewed at a given time through the web browser. The shows aren’t available on demand, and they aren’t accessible through the Spotify app.

    Google I/O 2021 Highlights - Google unveiled Android 12 at its opening I/O 2021 keynote, and now you can try the new update yourself as part of the first public beta. The Android 12 public beta is currently available for Google’s Pixel phones / Google and Samsung announced that they are essentially combining Wear OS — Google’s operating system — and the Tizen-based software platform that has been foundational to Samsung’s wearables for many years. The resulting platform is currently being referred to simply as “Wear,” though that might not be the final name. / Google is introducing a new feature to Google Photos that lets you hide specific pictures so they won’t show up in your photo feed or in other apps. The feature, called Locked Folder, will put whatever sensitive pictures you’d rather not share behind a password. 

    WABetaInfo reports that the Facebook-owned messaging app has started rolling out a new feature that will keep all your annoying chats hidden for good. As of now, archived chats can be accessed by scrolling to the bottom of your home screen and it pops on the top as soon as you get a new message in the archived chat. Now, the company is testing a new feature that will keep the archived chats hidden even when you receive a new message. The company has started rolling out a feature called ‘New Archive’ on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.21.11.1. This feature will house all your archived chats. It will also mute all the incoming messages that you might get in those chats.

    India is currently facing the second wave of Covid-19 with many states reeling under the surge in cases. In light of the ongoing situation, Xiaomi today announced it is extending the warranty of its devices by two months in India due to Covid-19. The warranty extension is applicable on Xiaomi devices whose warranty is expiring in May or June this year.

    Vi on Tuesday announced special Covid-19 relief offers for its 60 million low-income subscribers. The offers are aimed at helping customers stay connected during the ongoing wave of the pandemic. As part of the relief offers, Vi will provide ₹49 pack free to low-income customers. The pack features talk time of ₹38 and 100MB data with a validity of 28 days. “As a special gesture, with this one-time offer, VIL will be extending benefits worth up to ₹2,940 Mn to the low-income group users in the country,” said Vi in a release. Additionally, Vi has also launched a new Combo Voucher RC79, offering the benefit of double talk time of ₹128 (64+64) and 200 MB of data with a validity of 28 days, for a limited period

    Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio Infocomm is constructing the largest international submarine cable system centered on India. The mobile broadband digital service provider is working with several key global partners and submarine cable supplier SubCom is currently deploying two next generation cables to support data demand growth across the region. Airtel is gifting free recharge worth ₹ 49 for its customers. Airtel has revealed that this will benefit 55 million customers out of its user base of nearly 350 million. Government of India is saying that WhatsApp’s new privacy policy is against Indian IT Rules and Laws. the Centre said that according to it, the new policy violated Indian IT laws and rules. The Centre also told the court that it has written to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on the issue, and they are waiting for a reply. Microsoft Teams is now available for free personal use amongst friends and families. Microsoft is also continuing to offer everyone free 24-hour video calls.

    WhatsApp has been facing one hell of a backlash ever since it shared that it wanted to update its privacy policy with changes that would allow Facebook to aggregate all of its users' data across all of its services. At the start of 2021, WhatsApp came out with its new privacy policy for the users. The company is forcing every single user to accept these privacy policies. The updates privacy policies were supposed to roll out on 8 February 2021. However, there was a lot of backlash. A number of people started showing their lack of trust in the company and the app. The user-base also started making a conscious effort of moving to Telegram or Signal.
