When we talk about the transition to a decarbonised economy, it sounds like just one change. In reality, however, this societal evolution holds within it a number of different and varied transitions across sectors, geographies and timelines.
This is Talking Transitions, a new special podcast series brought to you by FORESIGHT Climate & Energy and EY.
In this series, we’ll be looking at how the transition to a sustainable economy—both from an environmental but also social perspective—is affecting three key areas: the energy and resources industry, the financial services sector, and Government.
In the first three podcasts, we will look at where we stand today, focusing on the risks and opportunities for these three areas.
Then, we will be at the COP28 climate negotiations in Dubai for some live podcasts to discuss how challenges can be addressed, no-regret strategies, the role of both the public and private sectors and how they interlink.
And we will then follow up on COP with a further set of three podcasts reflecting on what took place in Dubai and what the next steps will or should be.
Guiding me along the way will be an EY thought leader from each of the three different areas as well as a number of expert guests bringing their own unique insights into the transitions.
We hope you will join us too.

    Equity in the boardroom

    Equity in the boardroom

In the first series of Talking Transitions, we looked at how the transition to a decarbonised economy is inherently several different and varied transitions that span across sectors, geographies and timelines.
Central to this are the people these transitions affect and the need for these changes to be just and equitable. For this special bonus episode, David Weston is once again joined by a panel of experts. They discuss how equity needs to be considered depending on where you are in the world, how governments support the reporting of equity and what this means for sustainable finance and new technologies.
Equity is a global issue with local solutions so there are many options and routes to take making a complex but vital part of the shift to a sustainable economy.
Joining this episode to discuss how equity is being considered as part of the transition to a sustainable economy are:
    * Amy Brachio, EY’s global vice-chair for sustainability
    * Carolien de Bruin, senior director of equity action, World Business Council for Sustainable Development

    Next steps

    Next steps

Talking Transitions is a new special podcast series from FORESIGHT Climate & Energy and EY looking at how the transition to a sustainable economy—both from an environmental, but also social perspective—is affecting three key areas: the energy and resources industry, the financial services sector, and Government.
The energy sector celebrated commitments from national governments to support the “Triple Up, Double Down” campaign at COP28, which backed a tripling of renewables capacity, and a doubling of energy efficiency measures.
With many barriers and handbrakes still hampering the growth of clean energy deployment, there is plenty of work to be done both by industry and lawmakers.
To discuss the next steps for energy and resources sector, David Weston is joined in this episode of Talking Transitions by:

Serge Colle, Global Energy & Resources Industry Market Leader at EYBruce Douglas, CEO of the Global Renewables Alliance

    Private and public collaboration

    Private and public collaboration

Talking Transitions is a new special podcast series from FORESIGHT Climate & Energy and EY looking at how the transition to a sustainable economy—both from an environmental, but also social perspective—is affecting three key areas: the energy and resources industry, the financial services sector, and Government.
One of the key challenges with funding the climate transition is that many sustainable development projects, particularly emerging markets, are not commercially viable, due to high up-front costs and long pay-back periods.
By combining public and private capital through blended finance, it is possible to leverage public funding to help reduce the risk and lower the cost of capital for private investors.
This in turn can make it easier to attract further private investment in sustainable development projects.
Joining David Weston in this episode of Talking Transitions are:
Will Rhode, Global Private Equity ESG Leader at EYKara Mangone, Head of the Sustainable Finance Group at Goldman SachsKaren Fang, Global Head of Sustainable Finance for Bank of AmericaEmmanuel Lagarrigue, Co-Head of Global Climate Strategy at American investment firm KKR
