In this episode, we explore the different forms of political violence including terrorism and insurrection. We also examine historical fascism and begin to dissect the narratives that are shaping modern fascism today. We also place the far-right attacks against the US Capitol Building in context, by illustrating how the mainstreaming of white nationalist rhetoric in conservative politics over the past three decades has breathed new life into far-right extremist movements. We dive into the language, symbolism and ideas of the French New Right to understand its enduring influence in fascist politics and touch upon Russia's role in supporting the rise of neo-fascist ethnonationalism in the region and abroad.
