    First Day in ED

We are delighted to present to you the first-ever episode of our new EMDoc Podcast. Our team from Stoke Mandeville ED will be presenting episodes linked to EM topics on a regular basis. We hope to use this forum to improve the educational environment in our department and eventually contribute to the FOAMED world of Emergency Medicine. Today's topic is targetted to the junior doctors joining our department from August 2020. We discussed how ED work is different from all other speciality work. Tips shared in this episode include: 1. To remain aware of the social, mobility and care conditions of the patients before discharge. Involve relevant specialist teams like REACT, Pharmacy, Social services, PLS to achieve the best possible outcome. 2. Always seek help from your seniors. Discuss patients with seniors prior to discharge. Obtain a good history and clinical examination prior to discussing as your seniors will base their management plan accordingly. 3. Accurately document findings on electronic records. 4. Although the thought of managing a very wide plethora of conditions might seem daunting, it doesn't need to be since ED is the most well-supported area of the hospital with 24/7 availability of seniors. 5. Utilise the experience and expertise of the nurses. 6. Most of all, push yourself beyond your comfort zone to learn and build your confidence but beyond everything else, enjoy your time in ED. More tips and tricks in the next episode. EMdoc Team Hosted by Dr.Monojit Choudhury, EM and PHEM Consultant. Guests: Dr.Priya Rai and Dr.Adam Pickard.
