If We Learn This, We Could Change the World

Why is everyone so angry all the time? Dr. Jim Wilder of Life Model Works  and author of Escaping Enemy Mode: How Our Brains Unite or Divide Us offers that it’s because we are in enemy mode. There are different types of enemy mode. Simple Enemy Mode is when our brains see the person in front of us as a problem to be solved.  In that moment, we are not loving others like Jesus does. Stupid Enemy mode is when we respond out of the heat of the moment in a way doesn’t represent who we truly are – we do something “stupid” that we later regret. Intelligent Enemy Mode is when we strategize how to make others lose. We are so focused on #1 that we plan how to use others hurts to hurt them as a means of self-protection. We can easily slip into enemy mode but must intentionally work our way out of it. The good news is, we can learn how to do that! And if we learn to do that, we could change the world! And in this episode... If you are a Christian who battles to live into your God-given identity you’re not alone. Shawna shares how her girlhood dream was to sing the world into love relationship with God. She knew how to package her dream to look good to Christians but it was much more about desiring the praise of others than praising God. Last, Perry’s coming back to the heart of worship. He prays, “Lord I’m sorry for making it about me so many times. Forgive me. Like the Grinch, enlarge my heart. Baptize me again in your love and break my heart for a lost world.” Support the show: https://give.moodyradio.org/fall-share?v=def&appeal=MRWM&_gl=1%2a142i9we%2a_ga%2aNTE4MTE5MmUtY2U1Yy00YmQ3LWU4MmUtNjEwYTQ5YzAyODRj%2a_ga_4WH1937046%2aMTY5NTExODEwMS4yOTkuMC4xNjk1MTE4MTAxLjYwLjAuMA..&_ga=2.197426156.215784306.1695059984-1182841406.166859587 See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

“I Was Baptizing Before I Was Baptized!”

Mark Clark grew up in Toronto with no church, no faith, completely skeptical and with an atheist father. He didn’t believe in the resurrection because his modern mind couldn’t believe in miracles plus he was just offended by Jesus teachings. And now he’s a pastor. Wait, what? Mark’s a pastor at Bayside Church in Sacramento and has written some powerful books including The Problem of Jesus: Answering a Skeptics' Challenges to the Scandal of Jesus. Then Shawna’s daughter who lives in the Czech Republic is home! Yesterday Shawna and Bryn ran errands together. Facetime is great but being WITH her is way better!  Through the Holy Spirit we get to be WITH God - all day - every day! Next, every single person in the world is a disciple. Every single person is being formed by some world view. The process of being a disciple of Jesus is being deprogrammed from the ideologies of the world and then into the Jesus way. Then, I don’t know if you’ve ever been blindsided by life’s storms. Yesterday a friend shared with Shawna that their marriage is struggling. The storms of life can come up out of nowhere and blindside us. Jesus offers a peace to us that the world cannot offer, and the world cannot take. No matter what is going on in the world, or your world, you can still experience peace today. Last, with yesterday’s US election there are certainly people on the right who are saying, “We beat those losers.” And then people on the left saying, “Those uneducated barbarians have ruined our country.” What’s at the root of both of these sentiments is pride. Something Jesus is very much against. It’s a conversation about religion/politics and the gospel. “Thank You For Believing in Me”

That’s the overflow of singer-songwriter Rebecca St. James’ heart as she reflects on Jesus believing in her and her family, giving them a hope and a future only he could have provided. Singer-songwriter Rebecca Saint James is here! In case you don’t know the film Unsung Hero tells her family’s incredible story. In 1990, after his music company fails, David Smallbone and his pregnant wife Helen take a leap of faith, moving their seven children from Australia to Nashville.  With only their luggage, a love for music, and unbreakable faith, they set out to rebuild their lives. In the rebuilding Rebecca lands a record deal at 16, paving the way for her brothers, Joel and Luke, to later form For King & Country. Rebecca shares why she cries every time she watches Unsung Hero. Perry shares why he cried during the film (It was something that moved his father’s heart for his daughter.) Rebecca shares how she and her husband are trying to build a home where their kids can feel safe to come to them about anything. We do talk about how Jesus believes in us and calls out the not yet in us. And Rebecca’s shares how a John Mark Comer book has transformed her hurry up life. Also, join us for “Christmas with Rebecca St. James” in December here in West MI! Last, Perry and Shawna share about the undercurrents of lies they believe that the Spirit is bringing to light.
