Baḥya ibn Paquda read the description "perfect" (תָּמִים, tamim) in Genesis 6:9 to describe one who aims to make one's exterior and interior selves equal and consistent in the service of God, so that the testimony of the heart, tongue, and limbs are alike and support and confirm each other.[185] Maimonides Maimonides taught that God, being incorporeal, is elevated above the use of a sense of sight. Thus, when Scripture says that God "sees" — as in Genesis 6:12, "And God saw the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt" — it means that God perceives visible things. Maimonides thus argued that "God saw" would be more properly translated "it was revealed before God."
