Las músicas no occidentales forman parte del cambio producido en la música en todos sus parámetros. Entre estas puede hablarse del gagaku japonés, de las músicas chinas asociadas a las tradiciones yayue y suyue, y de las ejecutadas por etnias africanas como los pigmeos.
