Bourne to Dance is the podcast from Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures that celebrates the love of dance, creativity and storytelling. It explores this innately expressive art form and questions why dance moves, inspires and excites us. New Adventures Resident Artist, Paul Smethurst will speak to members of the New Adventures family to discover their unique story of how they first encountered dance and how it has impacted their lives.     In the first episode of the new series, Paul is joined by Brett Morris, Music Director and Principal Conductor of New Adventures. Brett was born in New Zealand. He initially studied conducting with Juan Mattuecci in Auckland, before travelling to London to study with Norman del Mar. He subsequently completed his studies in orchestral conducting and piano accompaniment at the Royal College of Music, in addition to undertaking a MA at Roehampton. Since 2000 he has been Musical Director and Principal Conductor of New Adventures and has conducted all of the company’s repertoire in London, on tour throughout the UK, and internationally throughout Europe, the United States and the Far East. In 2013 Brett was made an Associate Artist of New Adventures in recognition of his artistic contribution to the company.     In this week's episode of Bourne to Dance, host, Paul Smethurst is joined by Helen Linsell. Since completing her Postgraduate Diploma in Community Dance at Laban in 2001, Helen has worked extensively as a Community Dance Practitioner. Her roles have included Youth Dance Practitioner for South East National Dance Agency, Dance Development Officer for Crawley Borough Council and Education and Community Dance Practitioner for Laban. In 2007, Helen joined Dance United, working at The Academy in Bradford with young offenders and women in prison. She became Academy Director in 2008 and went on to become Artistic Director of Dance United Yorkshire in 2011, continuing to specialise in social inclusion. Helen has directed independent projects in South Africa, Namibia and Jamaica as well as teaching for organisations in Yorkshire including Yorkshire Dance, Northern School of Contemporary Dance and Phoenix Dance Theatre.     Arthur Pita first worked for the company in the West End transfer of Swan Lake. During his seven years dancing for New Adventures, he performed in many shows, including Cinderella in which he played the Angel, Car Man in which he played Rocco and Angelo, and finally Nutcracker! in which he played Knickerbocker Glory.    For the past 15 years, dancer and choreographer, Arthur Pita, has run his own company, Ballo Arthur Pita. Arthur Pita has a distinctive, inclusive and pioneering choreographic approach, driven by the Creative Case for Diversity. Arthur’s work demonstrates his commitment to working with diversity. Arthur’s work is informed by experience and curiosity about the wider human experience of being ‘other’. Ballo Arthur Pita's work is distinguished by its accessible, dance-theatre aesthetic and high production values. The quality and range of Ballo Arthur Pita’s work has attracted audiences from children, young people and families to first-time dance attenders as well as regular theatre- goers.
