111 - Musical Games: From Classical Composers to Singing Pirates

What defines a musical game? Videogames, and RPGs especially, are known for using a musical score to enhance the experience, so what parameters really define "musical games" and make their use of music especially notable? Today, our Rhythm panel is going on a journey to look at a wide variety of music that we feel fits into this category to tease out some of those important factors that mark a truly musical game. A game probably doesn't have to take place in the mind of an ailing composer from our reality and include many facts about his life to be considered a musical game, but it also doesn't hurt. 60 - The Lost Years

Every year we get introduced to new games and new music. The ever-growing bounty of RPG music out there has grown quite a bit, with 2020 alone giving us amazing soundtracks like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Haven, Paradise Killer, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, and more. And while we've been enjoying introducing music to people again on Rhythm Encounter since our return, we couldn't ignore the music we weren't able to feature between summer 2017 and fall 2020.
