In this episode Mark talks to Mark Mortimer.
Mark spent most of the '90s working in the Army as a Light Infantry Officer in some tough environments. He went through Sandhurst Royal Military Academy, where he learnt about leadership and a high-performance culture.
In 1997 Mark took part in the first ever "Atlantic Rowing Race" - a 3000-mile ocean rowing race from the Canary Islands to the West Indies.
Mark and his rowing partner completed this race in 75 days.
At the time "more people had walked on the Moon"!
In early 2000 Mark then moved into the Education Sector and has spent 20 years working at five different schools including being Headmaster of two.
He has travelled the world and operated in many extreme and hostile environments including the Sahara Desert, the Arctic, the Atlantic and the Jungle where you need to be physically fit, mentally strong and look after yourself to survive.
Listen to Mark talk about his "breakthrough moments" and "thoughts" which have shaped his life including:
"Being under sniper fire in Ireland"
"The power of harnessing collective endeavour"
"Thinking Two Up"
"No plan survives first contact with the enemy"
"Don't wait for the perfect moment"
And most of all he encourages listeners to ask themselves "Why Not You?", a question he often asks the students he works with.
