CREWUK: The leadership qualities the world needs - and why women are leaving before they can lead

The world is changing faster than ever — yet the leadership models we rely on haven’t kept up.In this episode, Ashleigh and Jamesina explore the leadership qualities the world now demands — adaptability, compassion, psychological depth and holistic decision-making — and ask a crucial question: if women embody many of these qualities, why are so many leaving senior roles before they can lead? Drawing on psychology, neuroscience and real-world leadership experience, the conversation looks beyond the obvious structural barriers to women’s progression and shines a light on the internal forces that often go unspoken — including the unconscious “inner patriarch” that shapes how women see power, confidence and belonging at work. You’ll hear a candid exploration of: Why traditional leadership systems still reward masculine norms — and at what cost The hidden inner conflicts that stop talented women stepping fully into their authority How motherhood, ambition and identity collide in senior roles Why confidence isn’t the real issue — and what is How leaders can develop the self-awareness and compassion needed to lead authentically in complex times This episode is for senior women, aspiring leaders, coaches and organisations who want to move beyond surface-level gender conversations and create leadership cultures that truly allow women to thrive. Dr Ashleigh McLellan brings the science of our evolved brain, emotions and motivations to understand what happens to us when under pressure and what to do about it. CREW UK: Workplace Insights with Kate Smith and Georgina Fraser

The CREWUK podcast aims to ignite topical conversations by bringing together experts within the real estate industry. On our second episode we explore Workplace Insights with Kate Smith and Georgina Fraser from CBRE. We will be discussing the challenges that we have faced in 2022 and lessons learnt for new beginnings in workplace design. 2022 was a year of uncertainty with global markets, labour supplies and energy prices affected by the Russian war against Ukraine, and economic instability in the UK with three Prime Ministers passing the baton of Downing Street in just one year. These challenges have too affected our industry, but despite this, we have seen some exciting advances in the design of our workplaces as most employers continue to embrace the new norm of hybrid working following the pandemic. Fuelled further by employees who are more educated than ever about agile working, and empowered to choose where and how they want to work. ESG is top of the agenda for most organisations which creates a need for more investment, innovation and creative solutions. We still have a long way to go but it’s promising to see that designers, clients and end users alike are starting to not only embrace, but drive change. The war for talent, the grand resignation and the pandemic has allowed organisations to understand the importance of employee wellbeing with the emphasis shifting from ‘organisation’ to ‘people’ first. The industry focus has sharpened on creating inclusive environments that nurture both people and the planet.
