Crime talk timestamp-11:10. This is the concluding part to the unbelievable case we covered last week, in which a mother Susan suddenly vanished from the family home in West Valley City, Utah in the middle of the night & was never seen alive again . Having been under intense media & police scrutiny in the aftermath of his wife’s disappearance, the net was slowly beginning to tighten on her very controlling husband Josh. With his creepy, perverted father now in prison himself for various offences, it looked like Josh could likely be the next member of the Powell family to face the wrath of the law. Until one day, as a supervised visit with his son’s 7 year old Charlie & 5 year old Braden suddenly goes from a normal day to a violent & horrifying nightmare . Just when it seemed the baffling case of Susan’s disappearance & suspected murder couldn’t get any worse it took an even more tragic turn, taking more innocent lives in the process & in the most horrific way. The gravity of this horrendous case reverberated around the world, making international news as the Cox family continued to search for their beloved daughter who they still have never been able to lay to rest. EP58: Lauren McCluskey

    EP58: Lauren McCluskey

Crime talk timestamp-8:50 It was October 22nd 2018, when 21-year-old college student Lauren McCluskey was on the phone to her parents catching up & talking excitedly about her classes. Suddenly her parents hear her shouting “No no no“ and what sounded like someone being dragged away, before the phone line goes completely silent. As they shout out her name hoping for a response from their daughter they are met by silence on the other end.
Terrified they call 911 & as police swarm the campus frantically searching for her a tragic discovery was made.
This promising, bright young track star from Pullman, Washington had been fatally shot by her boyfriend, 37-year-old Melvin Rowland.
He had been blackmailing her, stalking her & lying all along about his true identity . Even though Lauren was already afraid of him she hadn’t known the man she’d been dating was really a dangerous sexual predator & a criminal. And now he was also a cold blooded killer .
Today’s heartbreaking case raises many questions. Could Laurens death have been avoided?
As it became clear she had taken every correct precaution she could to try & get help from the campus police & had tried repeatedly to get effective protection against Rowland. Yet despite her caution & pre-emptive thinking, still nothing was done by police to save her, & her life was taken.
To this day, her parents whilst mourning their beloved daughter have channelled their grief & loss to bravely fight & campaign about much needed law changes on campuses .
They want to prevent any other senseless murders from happening to another innocent young girl just like it did to Lauren.
And they want to help students feel safe & protected in college as they very much have the right to be .
Sadly, it was too late for Lauren who could not be saved, but hopefully she didn’t completely die in vain.
Hopefully her tragic story which highlights epic campus police failures can raise awareness & help save other students lives in the future.
Today’s case details how the people & the institutions responsible for protecting her failed her at every turn….

EP57: Kids Who Kill:The Murder Of James Bulger Part 2

EP57: Kids Who Kill:The Murder Of James Bulger Part 2

Crime talk timestamp: 8:10 In this concluding episode we continue our deep dive into the tragic 1993 murder of 2 year old James Bulger, who was taken from his mother’s side in broad daylight from a Liverpool shopping centre in England . Here we look at how his two 10 year old killers Jon Venables & Robert Thompson reacted to their interrogations & changed their stories when finally arrested for their wicked crimes. They became two of only four criminals in British history to receive lifelong anonymity orders, meaning that shockingly their true identities after being released from prison have never & will never be revealed to the public . As it has since been discovered that after his release Jon Venables could not stop re-offending & has landed himself back in prison for serious child sexual abuse images, we question is the British justice system broken? Does it protect dangerous perpetrators rights more than those of the general publics? It makes us question how safe is it for the general public if a child killer who has continued to re-offend upon their release may very well remain a danger to society should he be paroled again . James mum Denise fought so hard for justice for her little boy, setting up foundations in his name that continue to let his memory live on in the most positive ways. Little James was an innocent young victim whose life was cruelly stolen from him way too soon, & his murder committed by two disturbed children will forever be remembered as Britain’s most heinous & evil crime.
