The Seven Foundations of Value Mini-Series: #6 Suppliers

Ecom Made Easy with Ben Leonard - the simple strategy to get people to love your e-commerce brand, from an expert who has actually been there and done it!

A few episodes back I spoke about the 7 Foundations of Value. The 7 key aspects you need to consider when building your e-commerce business to sell it. We've covered timing, stability, documentation, defensibility, and diversity in our previous episodes.

Now it's time to speak about Suppliers.

The relationship between you and your manufacturers is most likely the most critical in your business. If your connection with your suppliers is strained, you have a situation that a possible buyer for your business will not want to inherit!

Take a step back and imagine you don't own your business for a time. You're deciding whether to purchase this business.

When you purchase this business, you will inherit the relationship with the manufacturing partners or suppliers. You will not only inherit the relationship, but also everything about the partnership. Contracts, payment conditions, quality, punctuality, originality, and inventiveness are all important considerations.

Would you be delighted to inherit something like such?

Would you acquire a strong friendship full of goodwill and a genuine will to go the additional mile and collaborate for mutual benefit? Or will you end up with a stale, if not sour, relationship in which neither partner is cooperating?

Listen to this episode and find out how you can build a strong supplier relationship that will make your business more profitable, and sellable.

    How I Almost Failed

    How I Almost Failed

Ecom Made Easy with Ben Leonard - the simple strategy to get people to love your e-commerce brand, from an expert who has actually been there and done it!

    Episode Description:

In 2016, I nearly failed at the start of my e-commerce journey. I was signed off work and had to recover due to a heart problem. I was in a tough spot back then, but that heart problem turned out to be a blessing. It was the spark I needed to begin my entrepreneurial journey and build something revolutionary with e-commerce.

While I was starting out, I started to dig into Facebook groups, listen to podcasts, watch videos of these so-called ecom gurus and read Reddit. The narrative there was to use 'hacks' and 'quick fixes' to make a bunch of money on Amazon.

I ALMOST subscribed to these ideas, but I'm glad I listened to my gut feeling.

You see, tools and hacks are not the way to go. If you're just starting out in e-commerce, don't be fooled by the hacks and shortcuts that are touted as the key to success. Sure, they may work in some cases but more often than not they will lead to disappointment.

Instead, focus on creating something of quality that solves a real problem. Create a strong brand identity that'll gain you loyal and repeat customers. Build a community with whom you can inspire and provide value through your social media content.

Start small, be smart and take calculated risks.

Clear & Actionable Advice!

I’m a big fan of how Ben conducts these podcast episodes. They’re always straight to the point with clear and no BS advice. Apart from that, it’s always good to listen to someone who has very recently been there, and done it all.

5/5 from me.
