d'abord = en premier lieu = firstly/first (of all) “Tu aurais dû d'abord te mettre de la crème solaire. “ (You should have put some sun cream on first) tout d'abord = added emphasis on firstness.
elle est habillée = how she is dressed. to wear (des vêtements) = porter / mettre
en fin de compte = at the end of the day ”En fin de compte, c’est elle qui a raison” (In the end, she's right). Alt. (colq.) au final “Au final, ça n’était pas si difficile !” (In the end, it wasn't that difficult!)

- j’ai eu l'impression 🧩 = I had the impression / I got the impression. Very useful phrase, similar to English, so easy to remember. Add it to your toolkit.
- il a l'air de = he seemed to. A little bit of review from a few weeks ago. Pat yourself on the back if you knew it!
- tu piges ✨ = to understand / twig to / cotton on. very colq. (I know that’s what you guys are here for!) “Tu piges ce que je te dis ?” (Do you understand what I'm telling you?), “Tu commences à piger, fiston.” (You're starting to get it, son.) fiston = colq. for son/lad.

‘à fond la caisse’ : ‘à toute vitesse’ ✨🧩 = full throttle / at full speed - très familier mais aussi très courant
en train de = occupé à, en cours de = in the middle of, doing. Used often. “Qu'est-ce que tu es en train de lire, là ?” (What are you in the middle of reading there?)

t'es une vrai-e ✨ = you're a real one. Used to emphasize someone's characteristic or skill.
génial ✨ = formidable, super = awesome, great. We’re covering the real fundamentals and this is one of them. When learning a language it pays to nearly always be positive - when you want to say something positive (or have nothing else to say in response!) this is your trusty friend.

on s'entend, vous vous entendez = s'entendre bien, s'entendre mal = to get along/to not get along. The most advanced turn of phrase in this dialogue. When French people say "on s'entend bien", they're talking about more than just hearing each other. It's all about getting along like bread and cheese!
plutôt ✨ = assez, relativement = rather, quite. This little word packs a punch, adding a subtle nuance to your sentence. Il est plutôt beau, mon nouveau prof de maths!" (My new math teacher is rather handsome!).
des fois ✨= parfois, quelquefois = sometimes, occasionally = Use this when you want to sound like a true French local.
de temps en temps ✨= occasionnellement = from time to time = This phrase is your go-to for those not-so-frequent occurrences.

me plaindre = to complain (reflexive). do you have a whiner, a whinger, a real thoroughbred complainer in your life? (Poor you!) But now you can describe what they do in French! “Remarque, je suis mal placée pour me plaindre” (Mind you, I'm in no position to complain.)
le défi = the challenge. relever le défi = rise to the challenge, take up the gauntlet

Fantastic French Language podcast and worksheets The best1
really fabulous short conversations, done normal speed then slowly, translated and then with short worksheets and helpful hints. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT FOR LEARNERS or for those who used to be conversationally okay and need refreshing.
