Damien Perrot and Yann Le Floc’h: Vivatech Highlights Power Of New Thinking

“Wellbeing needs to be integrated in every innovation” Damien Perrot is the Global Head of Design and Innovation at Accor, with overall responsibility for inventing new products and services throughout the Group. Yann Le Floc’h is a seasoned designer who is also the CEO and Co-founder of Stairwage – the company chosen as the winner of the Health to Wealth Vivatech Challenge. In this episode of Health To Wealth, Damien and Yann discuss the role of wellbeing in developing new innovations, and especially the part that it played in creating Stairwage, an app that allows employees to have access to their salary before the end of the month. Damien explains that wellness plays a central role in all Accor’s innovation activity. As an example he cites hotelF1 the low-budget chain which offers access to those who have never been able to afford a hotel previously. He talks about other exciting start-ups such as Orbisk, which uses AI to analyse restaurant waste, and Glowee, which creates lighting from microbes, and their potential to improve wellbeing among employees and customers. Yann, meanwhile, explains how he came to invent Stairwage, and how it improves the financial wellbeing among a company’s employees by enabling them to absorb shocks, avoid debt, and be paid fairly. You’ll hear that Stairwage was chosen for the award above all for the passion of the team behind it.   If you want to know more about Health to Wealth by Accor and join our community of thought leaders please go to healthtowealthbyaccor.com    If you want to learn more about Accor please go to https://group.accor.com/ Hosted on Acast. Emlyn Brown: Well-being In Under 10, 000 Steps

“80% of our guests seek daily to improve their health and wellbeing.” Emlyn Brown is the global vice president for Well-Being at Accor, and he and his team are responsible for launching the Health to Wealth programme – including this podcast series. Emlyn has vast experience in the hospitality sector, running health clubs and spa operations across Europe, Asia and the Middle East. In his current role, he’s responsible for integrating well-being throughout customer journeys in all Accor brands and making wellness rise to the top of the company’s agenda.    In this episode of Health To Wealth, Emlyn explains why Accor decided to commission the podcast series and how it is intended to help democratise the notion of wellness, and take it from an exclusive aspiration to one that everyone can engage with. He reflects on the holistic nature of wellness, touching the planet, society and the individual, and the interconnectedness of all the different dimensions of wellbeing, from technology to health, fitness and nutrition. Emlyn picks out some of his favourite moments from the series, and some of the key learnings, such as the importance of moving to a preventative health culture, the value that can be generated through measuring well-being, and the imperative for organisations of every kind to cater for well-being among employees and other stakeholders – especially with younger generations. And lastly, he talks about the power of well-being to transform – whether that be at an individual or company level.    Health to Wealth: a podcast from Accor, produced by Purposeful Podcasts and hosted by Anni Hood from Well Intelligence.  If you want to know more about Health to Wealth by Accor and join our community of thought leaders please go to healthtowealthbyaccor.com   If you want to learn more about Accor please go to https://group.accor.com/ Hosted on Acast. Olaf Blanke: Neuroscience Delivers A Sense Of Self

“If people are out of body they feel less pain.” Olaf Blanke is a neuroscientist whose specialist area is the intersection of mind and body. Much of his work is about how that our brain perceives our body, and how this can be manipulated in different ways. His work involves applying this knowledge in areas ranging from prosthetics to meditation.  In this episode of Health To Wealth, Olaf explains the idea of self-consciousness as a bodily perception that is generated by different parts of the brain, and how this can in particular circumstances lead to phenomena such as phantom limb sensations and out of body experiences. He then goes on to describe how you can manipulate this sense of self by, for example, using haptic – touch – technology to enhance meditation. In this process, you’re transported to an environment that facilitates deeper and more rewarding meditative states. Some of the techniques can also be used to alleviate pain and stress, says Olaf. Avatars experienced through touch rather than seen are another exciting possibility. Ali Parsa: Telemedicine, A Booster For Healthcare Access

“Cultural shift is the most fundamental part of using any technology” Ali Parsa founded digital health company Babylon in 2013 with a simple mission: to make access to a doctor available to anyone with a mobile phone. Babylon has since floated on the Nasdaq stock market and become involved in important partnerships ranging from the UK’s NHS to the healthcare system in Rwanda. And during the Covid pandemic, one of Babylon’s cornerstone ideas was put to the test, as many people spoke to their doctor on a video call for the first time.  In this episode of Health To Wealth, Ali explains that Babylon’s approach to providing healthcare today involves drawing on the vast amount of online information available, and automating diagnosis as well as direct interaction with physicians. The true revolution, he says, will come through preventative healthcare that will be tailored for the individual by systematically collecting and analysing their health data. What’s needed, says Ali, is a re-think whereby doctors are paid for keeping people healthy rather than simply treating them when they are sick. Technology may never be able to provide the personal touch of a human, but it can transform global access to good health. Harry Jameson And Oli Patrick: Fit To Perform

“From a performance perspective, not all stress is bad.”   Oli Patrick is a physiologist and Harry Jameson a performance and wellbeing coach; together they have created Future Practice, an academy and learning community for wellbeing professionals, and PILLAR, a performance concept anchored to movement, nutrition, and recovery.    In this episode of Health To Wealth, Harry and Oli give their separate perspectives on the relationship between fitness, well-being and health, and their shared message that it is desired outcome, not the journey, that truly matters. They break down physiological interventions into three domains: movement, nutrition and recovery; and describe how that translates to identifying the steps each individual needs to take to improve their own outcome. Oli and Harry reflect on what it takes for governments and corporate leaders to encourage and motivate people to adopt healthier behaviours, and the vital role information plays in this. And they explain why stress – which be good as well as bad – must be followed by recovery. Allie Burns: Where Investment Angels Dare To Tread

“The goal is that all investing is impact investing” Allie Burns is the CEO of Washington DC-based Village Capital, a venture capital firm that invests in businesses which address social issues. What’s unusual about Village Capital’s approach is that it not only seeks to broaden the base of entrepreneurs that benefit from venture capital; it also believes that more diversity among investors will lead to a more equitable distribution of investment money. In this episode of Health To Wealth, Allie outlines the fundamental inequality that exists today in backing for business, by gender and by ethnic background, but also by geography, with 50% of venture capital in the US going to three states, and predominantly to white male entrepreneurs. She spells out the consequences of this, especially in terms of the great ideas that could benefit society but never get a chance. And she talks about Village Capital’s approach to building diversity – including peer-led investment decisions that give minorities a vote. On a personal level, she reflects on her father’s business failure that could have driven her away from entrepreneurialism, but had the opposite effect.
