Historyzine: The History Podcast

History magazine show currently focusing upon the 1918 flu pandemic (also known as Spanish Flu) which, it is estimated, infected almost a third of the world's population. I aim here, to take you on a journey where we investigate what it was like to live in these times; what the governments did to try and control this virus and how people coped with the pain and suffering. Older episodes of Historyzine (goodness, 10 years ago now) have visited the topic of The War of the Spanish Succession.

Really Interesting Format

Jim is someone who is obviously very into his topic, and history in general, and it comes through in his show. The earlier sections dealing with historical trivia and reviews are really great, and really bring something to the format. It's a bit of a shame to see there's been no podcasts here for a while - hope all is well and Jim will soon be back at work turning them out! I especially like the reviews section in fact, this shows someone who is confident enough about their own work to know they can talk about how good other podcasts are without losing their audience to them. On the whole an excellent podcast that I would be prepared to reccomend to any history buff.
Not for me. Sorry.

Personally, I found this podcast very unfocussed and not particularly interesting. The war lasted from 1701 - 1714 and yet the final episode covers the battle of Oudenarde in mid July 1708. Did nothing really happen thereafter? I'm not so sure. The other podcast reviews I felt did not add anything and the choices of music were irrelevant and off-putting. Can't hold a candle to the excellent History of Rome podcast by Mike Duncan who covers his subject in a much more engaging way. Can't wait to start listening to his next project "Revolutions"
Please start again !

I really enjoyed this - I like the varied format, with reviews and such as well as the war of Spanish succession. I hope Jim starts again soon.
