James Gilbraith reads his tales of angling the predictably unpredictable waters of Lancashire's River Ribble, trying to capture that most illusive of creatures, joy. Hooked On Hope is a sonic journey about fishing, chasing salmon, friendship, music, humour and balance.

Episode 1, Clint Best Vs The Cosmos
This episode is taken from James Gilbraith's first book "Terminal Chancer" released in 2014. This is a story of competitive sports fishing at its most psychedelic. James takes on the 'National Association of Local Government Officers', the farmer's mad dog Ming, his long standing rival and best friend Mick Crook, and an epic comedown on a baking hot summer's day in Blackburn circa 1990. Who'll come out on top, Clint Best or the Cosmos?

DIY means “do it yourself!“
Each episode has genuinely made me laugh out loud. Be warned though, this may cause you to quit your job.
Brilliant!
Funny and beautifully produced blend of storytelling and sound. Excellent stuff.
A psychedelic story about fishing
So, you don’t have to like fishing or have any fishing experience to enjoy these podcasts - but you will learn what a kelt is and so will be getter placed to take up fishing should the story inspire you to do so... You’ll also be well placed to enjoy it if you love The North and northerners in general thanks to Boo’s soulful story telling and properly brilliant voice or if you were listening to a lot of indie in the 90s. It’s a right lovely listen... as a story that takes you on a weird, wonderful and slightly psychedelic journey and a great piece of sound👂🎣🌈📣
