Discovered in November
Discovered this podcast in November 23 and been devouring the content. I hear so much of my own life being read out in the letters which is sad and empowering at the same time. Sad for younger me and me now but so empowered by what is shared by listeners and Helen and Katie. Thank you for all the work you do
Not sure…
I want to start by saying that I’ve found the discussions around narcissistic behaviour hugely insightful and helpful. Recognising behaviour that I’ve experienced in my own life and having it validated is hugely valuable and I’m grateful for that.
The more episodes I listen to, however, the more uncomfortable I feel about the ethics of the way these deeply personal topics are being handled. I wonder what impact the aggressive language, the outrage, the intuitive leaps (and anger from one presenter in particular) have on the readers brave enough to send in their letters? In all honesty it just feels deeply unprofessional and at odds with how I would expect mental health professionals to show up.
I’m left with a really uncomfortable taste in my mouth which is such a shame as I do think that the topic is SO important. I personally just need it handling in a more sensitive, calm and empathetic way.
Psychotherapists?
If this podcast were two friends having a discussion then it would be interesting but these presenters say they are psychotherapists. Their conversations are full of projection, blame, unreflective judgement, fawning (in one direction only) and unsubstantiated statements. One presenter is so emotionally brittle and self-justifying that I’d worry about them working with vulnerable clients.
