Great show with humour and empathy
A great history podcast balancing well researched stories with a sense of humour but balanced with empathy. It’s a tricky thing to get right - there are quite a few with a similar model (someone familiar with a story telling it to someone new to it) which lean too much on the humour. Here you have facts, acknowledgment that war is hell, and humour all balanced pretty well!
I definitely come for the history part of military history - it’s there more in some episodes than others, sometimes if a topic has been covered before they don’t cover all the context but will point you to the episodes which do. But every one is well researched just some are more specific (e.g. the story of one battleship) and some are broader (entire Iran Iraq war) so if you’re not a battle details person or not a broad history you may skip some episodes.
I would say don’t start at the beginning as it has improved over time but then after starting in the 2021 episodes I have now listened to almost all of them 😅
Well written and hilarious
Absolutely love this podcast. Joe and his co hosts really make history interesting. All the episodes I’ve listened to so far are well written and researched but also conveyed with a quirky sense of humour and wit. I’ve always loved history but I was never too interested in war/battles and this has really changed my mind. It is so interesting and I love Joe’s take as a former soldier. So glad I found this. Thank you!
8 out of ten times…
these guys (always guys for some reason) absolutely nail their task. When they do, it is very, very good.
