Nick Stewart, the voice of Brer Bear, and daughter, Valarie, discuss the Ebony Showcase Theatre in 1992.

Nick Stewart, the voice of Brer Bear

The award-winning historic Ebony Showcase Theatre and Cultural Workshop, is a charity that was founded by my parents, Nick and Edna Stewart, in 1950.  I am raising money for a building to house our projects, and for a new laptop and projector for educational presentations, including presentations about pioneering Black old-timers in the entertainment industry whose work is now censored and mislabeled as racist.  My dad, a pioneer in vaudeville, radio, movies, television and theater, played the part of Lightnin' on Amos and Andy and he's the voice of Brer Bear in the movie "Song of the South and the Splash Mountain ride, which is in danger of being decimated and re-themed to "The Princess and the Frog." I recently googled and found the following link about us here: https://www.onstageblog.com/editorials/its-time-to-talk-about-the-legacy-of-nick-stewart
