Softball feel good political interviews

Whilst interesting list of guests with special internet for those who take special interest in politics around the North, this is curiously softball.

The interviewer ends up agreeing half the time - slightly strange when to hear the “yeah I agree” when a Conservative and hard left guest say the polar opposite weeks apart - but more frustrating is the simple lack of basic follow up or challenge to any political statements. I know they say you catch more flies with honey than vinegar but at some point presumably you want to catch a fly.

So interesting if you want to essentially listen to a press release in podcast but it does rather feel like politics of the “have you anything you wish to tell us Mr Attlee?” vintage.

New host coming down hopefully that will have a bit more political punch and savvy.

Loan charge

Listened with interest to the Loan Charge episode. While not discounting the points made I was surprised that it was completely one sided and without counter challenge. The starting point is that these were tax avoidance schemes entered into by individuals who must at least acknowledge some responsibility for their circumstances, but that is absent. The guy involved was eloquent but let’s hear from those who didn’t try and avoid tax and in doing so suffered stress and hardship yes?
