Room to Grow™ After Dark: Gender Equality: Re-Examining the Meaning of Male Privilege with Chelsea Wallace & Greg Ryder

Room to Grow™ After Dark: Gender Equality: Re-Examining the Meaning of Male Privilege with Chelsea Wallace & Greg Ryder

Today, we’re tackling one of the more controversial and unspoken angles of the gender equality discussion: the struggle men face. More specifically, how the (rightful) innate nature of “male white privilege” has consequently shrouded the staggering statistical inequities men face in many areas, including poverty, mental health and death.
This conversation may be triggering, but I encourage you to listen to its entirety before writing it off. The only way to achieve equality is to listen and learn from everyone, white, heterosexual men included.
This episode features myself and two wonderful humans from two very different backgrounds, Chelsea Wallace and Greg Ryder. Both here to listen and speak about their honest feelings and experiences regarding gender equality and privilege. The conversation was incredible - well balanced, compassionate and full of enrichment (and tears) for all of us. It’s one of my favourite episodes I’ve ever done, and the most uncomfortable.
In this episode we’re talking about:
Why many metrics of gender equality are misleading The nuance behind the meaning of “privilege” How to better participate conversations about gender equality Why women often still feel triggered by men’s words and actions How all genders can help each other move past old gender paradigms New sources of support for men
This is part of my Room To Grow™ “After Dark” series which tackles particularly controversial and purposely uncomfortable topics in a well-rounded, roundtable forum. I’d love to keep talking about this topic and hear your thoughts - please DM or email me anytime (contacts below)

Emotional Translation: Learning Each Other’s Unique Languages

Emotional Translation: Learning Each Other’s Unique Languages

Emotional translation is not about what is said in a relationship, but how the other person hears it. Words or phrases that mean something to you could mean something completely different to someone else. Not knowing how to speak each other’s language could turn a simple misunderstanding into a blowup or even a breakup.
So for a relationship to thrive, we not only need to speak clearly and honestly, but in a way they can emotionally translate, and vice versa.
Here, I’m going to share two huge tips to be able to emotionally translate in a relationship. This will not only help you better communicate your needs, but fully understand theirs, too.
In this episode, we’re talking about:
Why people interpret things differently Three things people primarily fight over  Two tips for being a better emotional translator How to communicate better in a relationship How to be more direct when speaking Two relationship questions to ask yourself
Please listen and let me know how this inspired you to shift your relationship communication going forward. DM or email me (contacts below)

Hypnosis & the Subconscious Mind with Marie Mitchell

Hypnosis & the Subconscious Mind with Marie Mitchell

Somewhere along the line, hypnosis got a bad rap. But if we look past the radical brainwashing and stand-up comedy gags, everyone from high performance athletes, to coaches, smokers and even children are turning to this age-old, holistic method to make positive changes in their lives.
Hypnosis essentially opens our conscious mind to what our subconscious mind is capable of. I’ve worked with Hypnotist Marie Mitchell multiple times, and invited her on the podcast to talk about the life-changing things hypnosis is helping people fix and heal, including: weight loss, quitting smoking, improving self-confidence, managing stress, improving relationships, alleviating pain, and performing better at virtually anything we want to.
Marie recently completed a Neuro Linguistic Programing course (NLP) and is currently working on a counseling diploma. She’s always looking for new and effective methods and often uses non-traditional and unique techniques, along with hypnosis to achieve her client’s goals.
In this episode, Marie and I are talking about:
How hypnosis works What happens to you during hypnosis The myths and misuses of hypnosis  The power of the subconscious mind to alter our behavior and beliefs How hypnosis can heal us from trauma  The list of issues people use hypnosis for Why hypnosis is a safe and transparent method of therapy Difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy I hope this episode opens your mind to this truly amazing form of healing. If you’re interested, Marie offers free in person and virtual hypnosis consultations (contacts below). And I’d love to hear your thoughts and takeaways from this episode!

The Life-Changing Power of Human Connection & Doing the Inner Work

The Life-Changing Power of Human Connection & Doing the Inner Work

Nothing lights me up more than witnessing someone’s life change as a result of doing inner work. I wanted to share an example of how quickly you can begin completely altering your life simply by actively deciding to invest in yourself.
This episode was inspired by a client who, in less than 2 weeks of working together, is already applying new awareness and knowledge into raising a toddler.
Doing the inner work impacts the way you parent, the way you treat others, the way you manage your employees, the perspectives you hold and the compassion you demonstrate for yourself and others. It shifts your worldview, improves your mental, emotional and physical health, can lengthen your life, better your finances, positively impact your career and give you an opportunity to create a sense of fulfillment you may have never truly felt before.
This story is proof of the power of human connection, and I truly hope it inspires you to invest as much time and energy into yourself as you can.

In this episode, we’re talking about:
What it means to “do the inner work” (entire episode below on this) How doing the inner work can heal us from trauma What is “emotional flooding” and why it often affects men more than women How our relationships are a mirror of ourselves Teaching by inspiring The importance of human connection
If you’re looking for a place to start doing your own inner work, please reach out to me via email or DM on Instagram (contacts below). I’d love to provide you with the dialogue and opportunities to start you on your true path.

One of the Toughest Parts of Growth Nobody Warns Us About

One of the Toughest Parts of Growth Nobody Warns Us About

Sometimes, personal growth and transformation can accelerate so fast, it can surprise and overwhelm. So much so, we can lose faith in our ability to even keep up.
Nobody warns us about that part of personal development.
Here’s the thing: with growth comes anger, grief, frustration, uncertainty and fear. Not to mention, constantly reintroducing yourself - to both others and yourself - is exhausting.
But every big dream comes with big resistance. So how do we overcome the resistance and find the confidence to keep going? Let’s dive in.
In this episode, we’re talking about:
Why personal growth feels uncomfortable and overwhelming How to trust yourself and not lose faith Why personal growth requires letting go of people and things How to feel confident making life-changing decisions How to let go of relationships without fear Why people pleasing can hold us back  How to avoid complacency and self-abandonment

“I am discovering who I am beyond who I have been” -Morgan Harper Nichols
If you’ve felt the resistance and discomfort of growth, you’re in exactly the right place. I’d love to know how this episode feels for you, so please send me a message or DM and let me know (contacts below).

Be in Utter Awe of How Damn Far You’ve Come

Be in Utter Awe of How Damn Far You’ve Come

It’s time we started being more in awe of ourselves.

It’s rare we ever feel truly awe-inspired by anything, let alone our own achievements and obstacles we’ve overcome (or are overcoming). Part of it may be the icky perception of celebrating ourselves, or the pace of life keeping us from ever stopping to smell the roses. We’ve even diluted the word “awesome” to refer to basically anything moderately impressive.

But I did an exercise recently (which I share in this episode) after which I was truly awe-inspired by myself. The revelation brought such a feeling of joy.

And for anyone who, like me, is exceptionally hard on yourself and feeling down about what hasn’t worked out yet, I hope this episode and experience encourages you to stand in total awe of just how damn far you’ve come.

“Learn to be your own anchor in the storm.”

In this episode, we’re talking about:

How our misuse of the word “awesome” has changed our behaviour How to be less hard on yourself Visualization exercise for self-appreciation How to reframe your challenges as successes How your internal reality influences your external success How others can inspire your own awe of yourself (a homework exercise)
I love your messages and DM’s following every episode! If this one inspires you, I’d love to chat with you about it (all my contact details are below).
