Rewilding Myths and Redefining Health with Sophie Strand

Rooted Healing

Sophie Strand is a writer based in the Hudson Valley who focuses on the intersection of spirituality, storytelling, and ecology.  It would probably be more authentic to call her a neo-troubadour animist with a propensity to spin yarns that inevitably turn into love stories.  Her first book of essays The Flowering Wand: Rewilding the Sacred Masculine invites masculine mythic and religious archetypes into more nuanced, complex ways of dealing with trauma, growth, and self-knowledge, rerooting them back into their original ecology.

Sharing the culmination of eight years of research into myth, folklore, and the history of religion, Sophie leads us back into the forgotten landscapes and hidden secrets of familiar myths.  Her eco-feminist historical fiction reimagining of the gospels The Madonna Secret will also be out this year.  Her books of poetry include Love Song to a Blue God and Those Other Flowers to Come and The Approach.  We talk about the renaissance of animism, rewilding our cycles and selves into the landscape, and redefining health or healing through the lens of chronic illness and ecology.  We also touch on queer ecology and the context behind her wonderful books.
