Secrets & Spies aims to seek out and engage in meaningful discussions with experts and practitioners about espionage, terrorism, geopolitics and intrigue.
Not all episodes are directly about espionage as some topics, such as terrorism, are pretty complex and require a look at the underlying ideology behind it to lead to a deeper understanding of the topic.
Also, due to the nature of the podcast topics, some episodes delve into the contemporary politics behind an issue. The podcast does its best to remain balanced. However, the show does take a critical view of the MAGA movement, far-left/far-right politics and Trumpism.

Dr Gubad Ibadoghlu imprisoned in Azerbaijan
On today’s podcast, we are joined by Ibad Bayramov, and we discuss the imprisonment of his father, Dr Gubad Ibadoghlu, in Azerbaijan.
Dr Ibadoghlu is an economics professor who was a visiting professor at the London School of Economics and a leading figure in the opposition in Azerbaijan. In July 2023, he was arrested and held by Azerbaijan authorities while visiting family. He is facing up to 12 years in prison for the production, acquisition, or sale of counterfeit money by an organised group and allegedly possessing extremist material—charges he denies.

Great Podcast
Great podcast, always has interesting and informative guests, especially liking the new ‘Espresso Martini’ episodes, the hosts often pick up on news or nuances within existing news stories the ‘mainstream’ media misses.
The Bible for Libel
Just an FYI, in the UK, people are presumed innocent until proven guilty, yet all the discussion about Chris Cash assumed his guilt and even talked about invented recruitment scenarios that were woven out of whole cloth. It’s not the first time I’ve heard the host so this type of thing - I realise he idolises the intelligence services/law enforcement but he should remember that they sometimes get things wrong.
