X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Cane and Rinse No.612

James, Karl, Leah, and Tony go on an intrepid adventure through the Angolan jungle and Canadian Rockies hot on the trail of everyone’s favourite Canadian can opener.

It’s not often that a movie tie-in outshines its movie, but back in 2009 Raven Software seemed to achieve that with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. We know Logan ages gracefully, but will his game fare so well?

The Sausage Factory 490 was edited by Chris O'Regan

The Sausage Factory is an interview-based podcast that lifts the lid on the makers of videogames. It examines the way in which games are made by asking the very people who create them, though the questions asked aren't just about game design, they also cover how developers made their start and what inspires them as creators.

Split into two halves, the first segment delves into what makes the developers tick by asking about how they started, what and who inspires them and what games they are currently playing, whereas the second part of the show covers the game that they are currently working on and the thought processes behind its development. So, if you really want to hear about a game's gestation in full and frank detail then you have found the right podcast.

Super Mario Land - Cane and Rinse No.611

Four years since we covered Super Mario Odyssey, and 35 years after its release, it's time for Super Mario Land to get the Cane and Rinse podcast treatment. Leon, Chris Worthington, James and Leah raid the cupboards in search of enough batteries to beat the platforming plumber's first outing. Which isn't many batteries. Because the game is really short. As usual we also get memories and opinions shared by a number of the game's 18 million plus players as we await Super Mario Land's arrival on the Nintendo Switch.

Excellent gaming podcast

I’ve been listening to this podcast for 5-6 years now, and the team still delivers! My teenage daughter has also started listening and she finds Leon very relaxing to listen to. As a host, Leon excels, and the rest of the team are great too; particularly Michiel, Chris, Jessie, Leah, Karl and occasional guest Ben. They’re always very passionate about the games they play… except for Rayman!

Phenomenal long form video game insight

As an adult, I am lucky to finish 2 games a year but whenever I do I check to see if that game has a Cane and Rinse episode. The discussion is insightful, thorough and entertaining. Often when I am struggling to pick my next game, I look at my unplayed episodes for inspiration. Even episodes on games I have no interest in playing are a joy to listen to such is the high quality of the show.

Great… Most of the time

As with most ensemble podcasts some members of the team are better than others but that’s personal taste more than anything.

This is often a great show but I just can’t stand the sanctimonious left wing sjw drivel they break out into every now again. You’re reviewing video games ffs, does anyone care what about what a podcaster thinks about “problematic themes“ in a 20 year old video game ? I know I don’t.

Keep up the good work !
