Shamima Begum: The Blame Game
Shamima Begum was 15 years old when she left Bethnal Green with her two school friends to travel to Syria to join the ISIS Caliphate in 2015. It was an event that left people across the world questioning how and why this could happen. As the war against ISIS continued, her fate remained a mystery. 5 years later Shamima re-emerged in a Syrian refugee camp, her apparent lack of remorse immediately turning her into a figure of hate. From day one, ITV News, led by its Global Security Editor Rohit Kachroo, has followed the story of Shamima closer than anyone else. With unparalleled archive, unique testimonies, exclusive interviews and analysis from an award winning journalist, we unpack the story from when it started, to where we are now. It's a story with one individual at the heart of it, but one that involves multiple agencies, institutions and countries, all seeking to shift the blame for how and why this happened. In Shamima Begum - The Blame Game, Rohit Kachroo addresses those questions.

Genuine security risk
25/03/2023
She has no real attachment to her family in the UK, no affection for this country and often states she feels unloved and her most valued relationships are with her friends who also absconded to ISIS. I would be very afraid regarding her future behaviour and the likelihood of her committing terrorist acts should she ever return.
You filmed her losing her citizenship?
30/07/2023
Was it really necessary to film her reading that her citizenship had been revoked? Let me be clear. She joined a terrorist group which is inexcusable. I have no sympathy for her situation. But you exploited her for your own means. Take a leaf out of Josh Baker’s approach to treat everyone fairly. You exhibit gutter press morals.
Bring them all back
19/04/2023
For me the main question is this: Is it decent behaviour for countries like the UK to dump these people in the Syrian and Kurdish regions for them to deal with for the rest of their lives ? Each nation should take back their people and deal with them under the laws of that country. I don’t believe this girl is a threat to anyone and neither are the hundreds of children born to ISIS brides who deserve a chance of a decent life.
