In this podcast about all things Hamilton, Hamilton-related, Hamilton-adjacent, or anything else in the Miranda universe, I (your host Gillian Pensavalle) talk to guests (and my sometimes co-host/all times husband Michael Paul Smith) about such things as: how Hamilton brings people together, how we find Ham references in everyday life, and the general brilliance of the show. I'm proud to say that we've spoken to almost everyone from the original creative team (aka "The Cabinet") including the man himself: Lin-Manuel Miranda. In addition, I've had cast members from every company, crew members, musicians, creatives, and the hard working people that keep the production alive. I've also had to pleasure of speaking to experts on the show and its history, some of my superfan friends of note, celebrity Ham enthusiasts, and everything in between.

When I started this podcast in January of 2016, I could not have imagined the incredible community that has grown around the show and the amazing experiences that have come my way. Thank you to everyone who has listened, appeared on the show, contributed, or reached out in any way. This podcast is for you and I absolutely love making it.

    A Statement

    A Statement

Tomorrow I have an awesome episode headed your way, and that is part two of my conversation with Jason Crystal, but today I need take a moment to use the platform and privilege I have to denounce police brutality.
    So here’s my statement.
I have an obligation as a white person to use my voice to speak truth and use the tools I have at my disposal for change. Mike and I are both life long New Yorkers, and the pain we see in the streets of this city right now is much like the pain seen all through our nation.
Systemic racism uses silence as a tool to further harm the black men, women, children, and trans people who are already being harmed and killed every day in this country for the color of their skin, with little to no justice. I want you to know we are with you in the fight to see justice is served. After years of deep diving in a show like Hamilton, I have a responsibility to put the lessons we have learned from it to good use. Nothing comes from no one knowing where you stand.
We need to say these things out loud: Black Lives Matter. We need to have these conversations for things to change. Let's take a stand with the stamina god has granted us.
This morning, the first thing Mike said to me was “where are we donating today?” So, if you need more information on what you can do to be of help - including where to donate, petitions to sign, and other resources - there are links below.
Stay safe out there. We are with you in this fight.

#220: Jason Crystal // Associate Sound Designer // Part One

In my first recording of quarantine I am talking with Jason Crystal, associate sound designer and sound supervisor for Hamilton. We  get an in depth look at what it takes to make Hamilton sing, Jason tells us how the tours manage to be ready for new venues just days after being on stage at the last, and we learn the art of making sure you always hear the conversations on stage you should, and none of the ones you shouldn’t.

ALEXANDER HAMILTON ✊

I absolutely LOVE this podcast. Being a massive theatre geek with no friends who like Hamilton, I love being able to listen to fellow Hamilton lovers geeking out over it. I especially loved the ones where Gillian interviewed the one and only LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA!! (I may have listened to them more than once!!). I love the interviews with cast members and also finding out about the real life history behind the musical. If you read this Gillian, thank you so so so much for giving me this amazing podcast. It really makes my day and it makes me feel as if I have someone to geek out about Hamilton to. Thanks so much... I should probably stop waffling now 😂. Thank you 😊!
