The Happy Heat Pump Podcast

Evan Davis & Bean Beanland talk about anything and everything to do with Heat Pumps. It's a UK objective to replace gas boilers over the coming two decades, with heat pumps being seen as the obvious alternative. It will be a massive project to change the way we heat our homes - we might be installing 25 million of these devices in the next three decades. So what are they? What do they cost? What are the positives and negatives of heat pumps? Always curious about the scale of the transition upon which we are set to embark, Evan will be looking at heat pumps in a dispassionate way, with Bean helping along the way… hoping to inform you if you’re thinking of buying one, if you work in the industry, or if you are simply interested in the journey to net zero. Please do get in touch with any questions and we will try to answer them in future.
Absolutely Brilliant!

This show is SO informative about heat pumps, in an easy to digest way, with bite size episodes, each tackling a specific point or a potential issue on which we will all seek better understanding and also often, need some reassurance. As we will all need to install some type of heat pump in our household over the next 25 to 30 years, this podcast comes at a perfect time to help us all getting a better understanding of this, not so new but still relatively under-used, more efficient heating system (which can sometimes do the cooling too).
We need to talk about money.

I think Evan Davis is wrong, heat pump should be put in when your current gas boiler is getting old, doesn’t have to be part of major renovation. Lots people have already put some insulation into their houses.I had heat pump put in over 4 days, including new radiators (as mine were over 30years old)and some piping, pretty painless really. I do remember how when we change our house from coal fires to gas central heating, and indeed we had to fund it all ourselves , no thought about grants.
Keep them coming!

This podcast is great, and well timed. I’m hoping to install a HP, and solar/battery, and run my EV, after a renovation this year this year, and I’m finding the podcast very helpful indeed. I’ve struggled a bit to find the right quality of information- not dumbed down, but not just trying to interpret spec sheets, to make informed decisions now about the design of the large renovation. Feel free to recommend sources of info for system design too please! Eg solar/battery/HP - what do I need to know?! But really enjoying this pod
High rise living.

Excellent content. However millions like me live in a flat. What are the alternatives available when our gas boiler needs replacing? Will we have heat pumps covering our external walls?
