To be a kaiju fan in the UK isn't exactly thrilling. To begin with, there are very few of us around, and even fewer with in-depth knowledge into the history and contexts behind the films of Japanese science-fiction and fantasy. Thankfully, that is where Steven and Ross come in. Both individuals offer up fantastic commentary on the films of the likes of Ishiro Honda, with genuine enthusiasm and an encyclopaedic knowledge. One of the reasons these podcasts are as excellent as they are is because of the genuine respect both Steven and Ross have for the films they speak of. For years, die-hard kaiju fans have had to put with mainstream 'nerd culture' websites who hypocritically claim to be fans of these films, whilst belittling them and their creators, and spouting numerous false facts about the series at the same time. So, for both Steven and Ross to be so respectful and still be objective about these films is a breath of fresh air for anyone who is truly into Japanese fantasy cinema. For the casual kaiju fan, these podcasts are budding with production notes and behind the scenes contexts that are sure to fascinate you, and for the die-hard fans, Steven and Ross' aforementioned enthusiasm will surely keep you listening time and again.
