“Mindfulness is a co-creation. Because you're not just shut off to what's going on around you. You're aware. And in that awareness, you're really feeling into, how do I feel in this moment? Is this what I want to do?”
Many of us have the notion that in order to meditate, and hence to reap the benefits of mindfulness, one must sit on a cushion in an uncomfortable position for an inordinate amount of time. However, for martial arts film star Bruce Lee, mindfulness was not necessarily sitting still. He would often meditate while jogging, or while walking around his backyard. And he saw mindfulness as an active process, a constant flow, one that his daughter, Shannon Lee, identifies as a “co-creation.”
After hearing Shannon and her daughter, Wren, speak about mindfulness at the Youth Mental Wellness Now! Summit last summer in LA, Youth Advisory Board Members Kaelyn, Dannie and Elver were brimming with questions. How could they incorporate mindfulness more into their daily lives? And how should young people be approaching meditation in this day and age? In this episode, Shannon tackles these questions with the same curiosity and wisdom fueling her endeavor to preserve Bruce Lee's legacy for future generations.
