Life Changing

Hi Shawn, Firstly, I would just like to thank you for helping to change my life! I started listening to your podcast a couple of years ago and my life has changed so much for the better. I am an Intellectual Disability Nurse in the UK and have recently trained to become a Public Health Nurse for school age children. You have ignited my passion to tackle health inequalities faced by some of the most vulnerable people in our society (Children and people with Intellectual Disabilities) which has led me to speak at public events to help spread the message. In fact, I've been asked to present at The British Society of Lifestyle Medicine (BSLM) event in Manchester later this year, which I am petrified yet highly motivated about. I will be speaking to over 1000 health professionals about making Lifestyle Medicine accessible to people with Intellectual Disabilities. And I wouldn’t have had the opportunity had it not been for you, so thank you. Like you, I have so much love and compassion for my fellow sentient beings and, as mentioned, especially those who are unable to advocate for themselves. This includes animals. So many times I have tuned into your podcast and listened to guest slate vegans and the vegan diet. Terms such as 'soy boys' and the like being branded about. Even when you have had guest on that are plant-based, and who I have heard on other podcast merely weeks before promoting their way of eating, there does not appear to be any open discussion on how adopting a more ethic and animal-product free diet can be beneficial. Aside for the moral and ethical issues, there is copious amounts of research that evidences its connection to longevity and better health outcomes. Additionally, the impact it can have on athletic performance especially with regards to ultra-athletes. Not to mention the environmental aspect. I would love to hear meaningful and open-minded discussions about all the above on your podcast. In so many other areas Shawn, you are true to your word and present impartial, unbiased content to your viewers. Sadly, this is the one area (of which I admit I have my own biases) where I feel you let your own biases (or show sponsors?) get in the way of open conversations and nuance. Once again, I would like to thank you for inspiring me. I appreciate all that you do and I hope that you consider my feedback. Warmest wishes, Jodie

Updated 04/03/24 - Shawn, I have been listening to your podcast now for several years and your content has been truly life changing. However it disappoints me so much that you will give anti vegan views a platform and have had multiple guests on your show being extremely derogatory and un-nuanced about plant-based diets, ranting about “soy boys”, down playing the environmental impact and disregarding the cruelty behind animal based foods.

Please remain true to your commitment and values by having on a guest that challenges these views. I am yet to come across an episode of yours that explores veganism, both the health side, the environmental side (and therefore global public health) as well as the moral and ethical implications of adopting this lifestyle.

That way listeners will be able to form more nuanced and balanced decisions about the diets that is right for them.

Feedback

I didn’t know where else to put this (happy to remove once you see).

It seems episode 758 has the same description as 757.
