221: Fashion, sex and turning sixty with Karen Arthur

Our guest for this episode is the amazing Karen Arthur - educator, fashion creative, dancer, mum, grandmother, founder of Wear Your Happy and host of the brilliant podcast Menopause Whilst Black. She's a multimedia node!
We talk about why she's encouraging everyone to wear clothes that lift their mood, and why it all starts with our knicker drawer. There's a bit of serious chat about how the Black Lives Matter movement inspired Karen to start her podcast, and we get to ask her what she wishes she'd known before she went through the menopause. Plus we hear about Karen's experience of going through therapy, why she thinks it's good to cull your insta feed, and what she looks for in a sex toy.
You can find out more about all Karen's awesome work, including her podcasts, styling sessions and sewing lessons, via her linktree. She is @therealkarenarthur on instagram.

219: Kids' books, co-parenting and cats with Nadia Shireen

219: Kids' books, co-parenting and cats with Nadia Shireen

What's it like being a cat person when you have big dog energy? Which term should we use - co-parenting, single parenting, or double parenting? And what does Philip Larkin have in common with the lead singer of T'Pau? Answering all these questions is the marvellous Nadia Shireen!
She tells us how she went from Smash Hits sub editor to successful children's author. We discuss the issue of diversity in kids' books, and whether things are getting any better. Then we round off with some chat about sleep deprivation and the role Mark Owen might play in the impending apocalypse. It's jollier than it sounds.
Buy Nadia's books! The excellent Barbara Throws a Wobbler and Grimwood are out now, and they are brilliant - our kids love them and so do we.
Follow Nadia on Twitter @nadiashireen, and on Instagram @nadiashireendraws. And do check out the awesome bookshop we mention at littleboxofbooks.co.uk.

Christmas Special: A Tale of Two Bumholes

Christmas Special: A Tale of Two Bumholes

Ho ho ho! The gang's all here for this year's festive episode as we are joined by Nurse Jessie, Sam Pamphilon and Steve Hill! Is Sam divorced yet? Has Nurse Jessie got a new job? Why are Ellie and James Bond responsible for Steve getting corona? And is it true that we all have two sphincters? Tune in to find out!
We cover a host of highbrow topics from how men go to the toilet to when it's OK to fart in front of a new lover. Ham Review almost ends in a fistfight, and Sam tells a lovely Christmassy story about a Coke Zero bottle full of piss. Finally, as a special treat, The Accent Game returns.
NB: Unfortunately there were some technical issues with this recording - some gremlins got in and made parts of the podcast sound all roboty. So we had to delete some bits, such as Sam's chat about what he's been up to (a new baby and a new telly show!), Jessie's gift swap (we got her some feminine hygiene wash!), and the boys' turn at the Accent Game (probably for the best.) But there's arguably more than enough to listen to here anyway...
Thank you so much to Laylo Wines for fuelling this podcast with their delicious box wines. For £5 off, go to drinklaylo.com and enter the code SCUMMY at checkout.
Look out for Sam on CITV very soon in the brand new show Ted's Top Ten. And congratulations to him and Dorothea on the birth of their son!
It's not too late to book tickets for our Christmas show! We're coming to Clapham, Kent, Winchester, and more... Go to scummymummies.com for dates and tickets.

217: Food, flying and false teeth with Daniel Varani

217: Food, flying and false teeth with Daniel Varani

Is booze really stronger when you're on a flight? What did Diana Ross allegedly try to smuggle on Concorde? And is it ever OK to put cheddar in a spaghetti carbonara? Answering all these questions is one of our favourite people - it's Daniel Varani!
He tells us all about his 15 years working as an air steward, from the weird things passengers leave on their food trays to dealing with people trying to join the mile-high club. Then we chat about Daniel's experience of growing up in London with Italian parents, and how food helped keep him connected to his mum in lockdown. He reveals his authentic bolognese recipe, and blows our minds by sharing the proper way to put parmesan on pasta. We finish off with some Scummy Mummy Confessions, including one from our very own Godfather.
Daniel's brilliant book, Danny's Kitchen, is available now. You can follow him on Instagram @dannyskitchen_hove.
And it's not too late to book tickets for our Christmas show! We're coming to Clapham, Brighton, Kent, Winchester, Stroud, Worcester, and more... Go to scummymummies.com for dates and tickets.

JoyBeatrice ,

Utterly hilarious

This podcast is everything! The girls and guests get onto some good subjects from divorce to marriage, babies and careers! Serious chat but always twisted and made funny. My favourite podcast is with guest “Sam Pamphilion how not to get divorced” I could listen again and again, in fact I’m going in for number two now!!

Southamptonnights ,

I have no kids

I have no kids, I’m a gay man and a 27 year old.... I found this podcast by mistake but it’s absolutely brilliant and very funny

Jeanettleyhart ,

Feels like they’re in a private joke that their guest isn’t part of….

Really wanted to like this and downloaded several episodes, but didn’t get past the first one. The hosts are constantly joking and laughing over nearly nothing that it feels like they’re part of a private joke their guest and the audience isn’t part of. Uncomfortable!
