We are Street Child United, a charity that uses sport and art to create a global platform for street-connected children, shining a spotlight on the major issues affecting children living, working and surviving on the streets. This podcast will transport you to the heart of our events, where we bring together teams of street-connected young people from around the world to represent their country at a Sporting World Cup.     "We made it, we made it, we made it."

    In today's episode, we are sharing the enormous effort of many team leaders to get their young people to the Street Child Cricket World Cup. We hear from the SCU teams manager, Julia, and also team leaders Karen from Uganda, Jean-Marie from Rwanda and Phil from Burundi. Most teams face challenges to get identity, passports and visas for the street-connected young people. But this year, a few teams had an especially hard test of strength with barrier after barrier placed in their way.     "This corridor is now like the United Nations": a day of arts at the SCCWC

    In this episode we are immersed in the arts workshops for the young people. The arts activities during the event provide the chance for the young people to express themselves, connect across the many language barriers, and have fun.  It's also an alternative way to document the extraordinary goings on at the street child cricket world cup. We take you into the sessions with visiting local artists, teaching the young people South Indian drumming, dance, singing and print making. You will also meet some of the professional artists who are volunteering as part of the arts team at the event.     Welcome to The Sounds of Street Child United

    Hello and welcome to a brand new podcast from Street Child United. We are a charity that uses sport and art to create a global platform for street-connected children so that they can advocate for the protection, support, and rights which every child deserves.  The first series of The Sounds of Street Child United is coming very soon, where we’ll share the voices of some of the world’s most inspirational young people as they take part in the Street Child Cricket World Cup in Chennai, India.  There will be 20 teams from 14 countries made up of 160 children; many of whom have no legal identity, no access to education and no safe space to live. They will be representing their nations and 150 million other street-connected children on a global sporting stage.  This is going to be an inspirational series, as we transport you into the heart of the event, with a daily episode from behind the scenes. You'll hear about the cricket tournament, the arts workshops; the advocacy, the friendships, the wins, the losses and everything in between - this podcast will capture the magic that is the Street Child Cricket World Cup from a host of different contributors.  Episode One coming 24th September 2023.
