The thing that makes you different makes you special, with Anita Bhagwandas

The Wellness Edit

Award-winning beauty journalist, broadcaster and diversity advocate Anita Bhagwandas has over 10 years’ experience working for the UK’s top women’s magazines, including Glamour, Stylist and Marie Claire. A figurehead for speaking out about inclusivity, diversity and racism in the beauty industry, she’s also known for starting the first plus size column in a luxury women’s title.

With her debut book ‘Ugly’ out in February 2023, Anita talks to Gemma about how beauty standards have evolved over the ages, and how they impact our lives and define our identity. Their insightful chat covers not fitting in as a child in the 1980s, colourism, colonialism, living with ADHD, and the landmark moment of seeing an Asian person as a main character and love interest in Bridgerton season 2. She also shares advice on curating your social media feed to change your perspective, using beauty products as self care not concealment, and time management and self care when you have ADHD. This refreshingly positive podcast will inspire you to embrace your authentic self and celebrate your uniqueness.
