Short Stories: Rejecting the Fathers of Hand Washing and Rocketry (Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis & Dr. Robert Goddard)
Did you know in the late 1800s, doctors didn’t wash their hands between procedures? When Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis – an obstetrician in Vienna – realized women in his hospital were dying at staggering rates, he implemented staff-wide mandatory hand washing. Maternal death rates dropped by 90%. But doctors weren’t happy. Semmelweis was called "crazy," told his idea was superstitious, not scientific.
75 years later, Dr. Robert Goddard – an American professor of physics – published a report via the Smithsonian theorizing that, one day, a rocket could reach the moon. A New York Times editorial was published the very next morning slamming Dr. Goddard – writing that the professor lacked the knowledge ladled out daily in high schools.

Interesting Well Presented & Lessons For Us All
To me, this is what podcasts are all about, introducing you to subjects you may not have thought to read up on and find out more about.
The show takes certain entrepreneurs or artists from the last 100 years and tells the story of how they overcame adversity time and time again to realise their dream. Most of them were knocked back so many times that. Mere mortals would have given up and sought another path in life, but no, these people persevered and had supreme focus on their dream !! I think I've listened to about 80% of the episodes, and there are lessons to be taken from almost every single one of them. I particularly liked Bat Out of Hell, Walt Disney, Col Sanders KFC at 65, Charles Schulz Peanuts was late in life too.
Many of the American based podcasts don't really translate into UK or European outlook I would say as they replicate the sensationalist style of much of the TV but this one is definitely a cut above.
I'm actually really surprised that this show has only got 8 ratings as it is just so good. Spread the word!!

Such a funeral to look into stories you would never think to look up yourself. This show inspires and is a great listen every week

I love this show! I am always so excited to see who the next rejection story is about. I listen when I’m home relaxing or on a run. It’s the perfect length. Excellent host and choice of stories. 5 stars!!!
