You're Booked

Welcome to You’re Booked, the podcast for literary nosy parkers who would like the chance to snoop around their favourite authors’ bookshelves.I’m Daisy Buchanan, your Book Inspector, and I’ll be asking our guests all about the first forbidden books they read under the covers, the beloved books they have borrowed, and never given back, and those impressive heavyweight hardbacks that make them look like intellectual giants – even though they couldn’t get beyond the first twenty pages. We’ll also be talking about what makes readers into writers, how our guests became book lovers and their favourite reading memories, all with a dash of intelligence and a dollop of irreverence. Our guests include Dolly Alderton, Nina Stibbe, Nikesh Shukla, and many more favourites from our own bookshelves. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Wonderful book pod
Daisy’s pod is one of my absolute favourites book pods - or any pods to be honest. She has such a broad knowledge of books and is very well read. Her guests are entertaining and knowledgable and the reading lists from each episode form a wonderful basis for a TBR list. I love to listen to a load of episodes featuring authors I like and cross refer to the lists of books discussed on other episodes to see where the same books feature on those lists. If you love books, and hearing about which books inspired authors to write, you will love it. I’ve met Daisy at a bookie event and read all of her books - she is lovely and had a soothing, reassuring tone to her voice and is also a great writer.
My bookshelves will never be the same again

I’ve been devouring the back episodes of this podcast for the last few months. It’s a lovely concept, and Daisy is fantastic. Always interested and excited and ready to listen to her guests and share her own stories. The quality of the conversations are amazing, full of incredible ideas and suggestions for future reads - it’s always a delight to listen. I’ve now started buying books specifically from hearing about them on the podcast - including Daisy’s own book, Insatiable - and I’ve just started my own Persephone Books collection after listening to the brilliant special episode. I’m so grateful to have been introduced to Eva Ibbotson and Andrew Sean Greer, and I’m about to take the plunge on Katherine Heiny and AJ Pearce. Somebody should really start a drinking game - tea, obviously - where you drink every time somebody mentions Jilly Cooper, Judy Blume or David Nicholls. Seriously though, that’s part of the joy. There are a lot of common favourites oft-discussed, but there is also always something new to hear about in every episode. I love it.
My new favourite podcast

I adore this podcast. I am new to it, and in danger of devouring the whole backlist. I find Daisy such a natural interviewer; every exchanged feels very conversational and easy, and I enjoy picking up new book recommendations. I especially love the ones where Daisy visits fellow authors in their homes. Top podcast for people who like listening to other people talk about books.

I rediscovered this podcast recently, having got hooked on it during lockdown. A beguiling insight into writers’ work practices, along with an enticing reading list.
