S2 EP5: Why is ADHD often missed in women and girls?

S2 EP5: Why is ADHD often missed in women and girls?

The stereotypical image of ADHD is a naughty school boy who can't focus and disrupts the class. But women, girls and non-binary people can have ADHD too - and many go without a diagnosis because they don't fit this stereotype. This week Sam and Katie are joined by Pippa Simou, founder of The ADD-vantage, a support service hub for girls and women with ADHD. Pippa tells them how ADHD can look different in women and why it's important to recognise that it affects different people in different ways.

Super podcast, essential listening for adults with ADD

Having just been diagnosed with ADD in my 40’s I have urgently needed more info to better understand the topic. The supportive nature of the podcast is great and info is provided in an easily digestible relatable way. This has really been essential in making me feel that I’m not alone and that there’s more ADD fish in the sea like me. Thank you to the hosts for candidly sharing their experiences, it has been invaluable to me.

May I also recommend to anyone else being diagnosed as an adult. Sharing your experiences with those you trust and love is essential to healing. Therapy and medication is very helpful. But don’t be afraid to learn about the topic, broader understanding of it will make life much easier. Reading, podcasts, ebooks are just some of the materials out there. Learning is power and you are as unique and special as anyone else!

Wish I had discovered sooner

Somebody recommended this to me on 16Feb24. I was constantly in overwhelm and struggling to “accept” my ADHD diagnosis (nov23) and perimenopause exacerbating it
The podcast makes me feel “normal” when I was being made to feel broken in a NT world

Thank you, Thank You, Thank you

Awesomely helpful

As parent of a person with ADHD who probably has ADHD myself these podcasts have been so helpful. Such a good explanation. A painful listen but worth it.
