In July 2018, blackgaze (black metal/shoegaze) juggernauts Deafheaven released one of the most unique records in recent memory. Stomach churning vocals balanced across delicate, graceful instrumentation and tropes of classic rock. This was not blast beat, evil black metal; this was pretty and hopeful.
