    Early Access: About Damn Crime - You Want to Believe

    On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Ellyn kicks things off with an update on the Diddy case. There was a recent gag order put in place by Diddy’s legal team, with the clear goal of making sure that no other witnesses speak out prior to the trial. Then, Rabia discusses the Melody Farris trial. Her husband, Gary Farris, was a prominent Georgia attorney who went missing in 2018 and was later found in a burn pile on their farm. As of the recording of this episode, we were awaiting a verdict in Melody’s trial. Then, Ellyn provides an update on Mica Miller’s death. Mica died on April 27th, which was ruled a suicide, amongst very strange circumstances, including it being two days after she served her husband, John-Paul Miller, divorce papers. This week, the FBI executed a search warrant of John-Paul’s home citing it being a court appointed search. Finally, we are joined by a guest listener, Dr. Aleks, who is a forensic interviewer and expert in criminal trials. She gives a devastating overview of the statistics in child abuse cases, including how frequently judges do not believe experts. Then, she discusses a child protective services case which is ongoing in Colorado. The case centers around Rachel Pickrel-Hawkins and Michael Hawkins.

    About Damn Crime - Finding Faux Connections

    On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Rabia discusses the tragic story of the Humiston family murders that occurred in Washington state earlier this month. It began with a 911 call from a 15-year-old saying that his 13-year-old brother killed his family and then shot himself. Then, Ellyn tells the story of Sewell Seltzer III who died by suicide in Florida in February of this year. His final words were to an AI chatbot, opening a conversation of loneliness, parenting and overall concerns about AI and the internet. Then, there is an open discussion about Sarah Boone who, on October 25th, was found guilty of second-degree murder after she zipped her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr., inside of a suitcase and left him to die. After a quick update on the Menendez Brothers, we end with a chilling story of a woman outwitting her attacker by calling 911 and pretending to order a pizza.

    The Case of Betty Broderick with Susie Evans

    Rabia and Ellyn are joined by Susie Evans, best known for winning season 26 of The Bachelor, or, as Ellyn puts it, the person with one of the most badass moves in the show’s history. She also hosts the Live, Laugh Lies podcast delving into the world of relationships gone awry. Susie chose to cover the notorious case of Betty Broderick who killed her ex-husband, Dan Broderick, and his second wife, Linda Broderick, in 1989. Convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 32 years in prison, Betty and her crime has been widely discussed in the media for decades with numerous books, documentaries, TV specials and series made about the case. Betty’s sentencing has been widely debated as she claimed battered woman syndrome, alleging years of emotional, psychological and physical abuse at the hands of her ex. This opens up a discussion about domestic violence, mental health and societal expectations of wives and mothers.

    On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Ellyn kicks things off with an update on Robert Roberson, a 57-year-old man who has been on death row for the death of his 2-year-old daughter, Nikki Curtis. However, all of that may have changed last week in an unprecedented halting of his execution. Then, continuing their discussion of the death penalty, in an extremely different circumstance, Rabia discusses Kirkland Warren who was arrested for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Meshay Melendez, and her daughter, Layla Stewart. We then turn the corner and Ellyn discusses a case making waves on social media right now as a woman and her husband claim she is serving a 41-month-sentence in federal prison for “speaking her religious truth.” The reality of what happened, however, is far different from what they’ve chosen to disclose on social media. Finally, we are joined by our very special Petitioner this week, Erin Rempe. Erin discusses the Iowa Attorney General recently launching a Cold Case division, followed by the cold case of Ashley Okland, a realtor who was murdered at an open house in West Des Moines, IA.

To kick things off, Ellyn brings the case of Carly Gregg, a 15-year-old who, on September 20th in Mississippi, was found guilty of murder. This opens up a very interesting conversation regarding trying a minor as an adult. Then, Rebecca gives an extensive overview of the Karen Read case, including all of the recent updates. To end the episode, Rebecca and Ellyn discuss Alex Cooper, the host of Call Her Daddy, and the recent backlash Alex received for her sit-down interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.     The Killing of Missy Bevers with Alison Sweeney

    Rabia and Ellyn are joined by Alison Sweeney, an actress, reality show host, director and author. You may know her as Sami in Days of Our Lives or as the host of The Biggest Loser, among a number of other TV shows and movies. Alison chose to cover the killing of Missy Bevers, a fitness instructor who was found murdered at a church in Midlothian, Texas in 2016. Based on surveillance video inside the church, an unknown man in what looks to be police tactical gear is seen walking through hallways, opening doors, and smashing glass. Very few leads have happened in this case, and it remains unsolved.

    On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Rabia and Ellyn both discuss the recent updates to the Menendez case. Recently, the Los Angeles DA announced that there will be a reexamination of evidence in the case. Next, Rabia tells the heartbreaking story of Na’Ziyah Harris’ disappearance. On January 9th, Na’Ziyah was seen getting off the bus on her way home from school, but she vanished. The police later found communications between her and a 41-year-old named Jarvis Butts, who was the father of her aunt’s child. Butts has a criminal past and had already been convicted of criminal sexual assault of a minor. Together they discuss the need to protect children. Then, we hear a quick Sean Combs update from Ellyn as the family of Tupac Shakur has hired a prominent lawyer to explore the possible connections between Combs and Shakur’s murder, which happened in 1996. To finish the episode, we welcome this week’s special guests, Gigi and Mae, to discuss the case of Robin “Rocky” Myers, who is currently on death row in Alabama.     On this week’s episode of About Damn Crime, Rabia is coming to you live from a beautiful, sunny California hotel room, while Ellyn deals with a bee infestation in her yard. First up, Ellyn discusses Ryan Murphy’s newest season of Monster, covering Erik and Lyle Menendez. She reads the recent statements made by Erik as well as the family members of Erik and Lyle against the series, and Ryan Murphy’s statement in return. Rabia then gives us an update on Marcellus Williams, who was executed last Tuesday at 55-years-old. She also gives a quick overview on other execution cases that the Supreme Court is currently deciding on. Then, in a Diddy update, Ellyn discusses the prominent Houston lawyer, Tony Buzbee, who is now lead council to pursue claims from more than 55 individuals who say they suffered sexual assault and abuse at the hands of Sean Combs. Then, Rabia covers the case of April Holt who was found unresponsive on July 29, 2023 in her shower in Nashville, TN. It’s a tragic story of April’s death, but also a story about April’s mother, Jamie Dickerson, and how her resilience kept the investigation alive leading to it finally being solved.
