    Record Sales | The Congressional Record | Frankie Miller

    Nick has a new game for us this week. Jay & Greg have to choose which of two artists had “Record Sales” in the past 30 days. The tricky part is that the list is based on sales from a used vinyl store in the UK (https://eil.com/features/topartistspage.asp). We believe the algorithm has learned that Jay is a sucker for the ‘artist that suffered a major health event requiring more famous artists to contribute to their benefit album’ genre.     Guess the Guest | News with Nick | Hot Topical: Jane’s Addiction

    We play “Guess the Guest” with Jay as host. This week the theme is “songs we already know” and the game is to guess the guest on the song played. Greg is calling in from DC on a special project with the US legislature, and Nick spent the previous 2 nights camping without much sleep. Who will prevail, tune in to find out! Song: Cordovas - “Love Is All It Takes” Get ready for it, it’s News with Nick. North Carolina musician Michael Smith has been accused by the FBI of creating hundreds of thousands of fake, ai-generated songs, then putting them on streaming platforms, and streaming the songs using upwards of 10,000 fake streaming accounts. He’s being charged with stealing royalty payments from digital platforms, which is illegal, right? TayTay endorses Harris, Kendrick is headlining the Super Bowl, and Tito Jackson passed at the age of 70. Song: METZ - “No Reservation / Love Comes” Greg’s taking us back to Hot Topical. He decides the Dave Grohl situation is a little too fresh, so we shift over to the news that Jane’s Addiction’s singer Perry Farrell attacked guitarist Dave Navarro on stage at a concert in Boston the week. They have since cancelled the rest of their tour and this whole thing sucks. They still rock. Song: Jane’s Addiction - “Ocean Size”

    The Resilient - "One More"

    We have a very special episode for you this week! The Resilient returns to the show to discuss their new album, “One More.” Nathan Kalwicki (guitar), Erik Kalwicki (bass), Juan "Dom" Dominguez (drums), Evan Kornblum (engineer, mixing), and Greg (lead guitar, keyboards, vocals mandolin, percussion) take us song by song and discuss how the album came exist. Evan, who has mixed or engineered all of the band’s releases, joins us for the first time and shares his philosophy on working effectively with and for bands. While singer (and harmonicist) Tim Donley wasn’t able to join us for the show, we were grateful to have Evan & the rest of band on to discuss the album.     Viral or Eyeroll X | Beck’s Bolero | Jesse Malin

    Round 10 of “Viral or Eyeroll” finds Nick as host, with Jay & Greg sitting the contestant chairs. It’s an Oasis heavy edition, and we have a clear winner when the dust settles. Song: Tigran Hamasyan - “The Curse (Blood of an Innocent is Spilled)” Greg introduces his latest project, Beck’s Bolero, a tribute to the solo work of Jeff Beck. The project came together thanks, in large part, to Greg’s new practice space. He’s assembled a talented group together and we listen in on a few practices to hear what they’re up to. The lineup features Greg Loman on guitar, Cain Daniel on drums, Taylor Shell on bass, Doug Organ on, obviously, the keys, and a whole list of backup musicians ready to jump in, if needed, whenever they start booking shows. No idea when that’ll be, but it’s already sounding awesome. Songs: Beck’s Bolero - “Scatterbrain” Beck’s Bolero - “You Know What I Mean” Beck’s Bolero - “Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers” Jay finishes this week up with an introduction to musician, Jesse Malin. “Silver Patron Saints.The Songs of Jesse Malin” is a triple-vinyl benefit album coming out on Sept 20 and featuring some impressive musicians and bands, including Bruce Springsteen, Billie Joe Armstrong, Dinosaur Jr., Counting Crows, and more. Who is this guy? We learn about this musician’s musician and frequent collaborator with all the artists featured on this benefit album. The album is raising money to cover the costs of Jesse’s medical bills, following the rare spinal stroke that he suffered last year.     Cotton Eyed Joe | News with Nick | Heard It Through the GREGvine

    Jay shares the fascinating history of the traditional American country folk song, “Cotton-Eyed Joe.” Sparked by the recent meme “Gegagedigedagedago (Cotton Eye Joe)” and a video by Polyphonic, Jay traces the song back to its 19th century roots and works his way to today. We listen to versions by the Rednex, Gid Tanner & His Skillet Lickers, Bob Wills, Burl Ives, Karen Dalton, Nina Simone (and a few others).     Jackson in LA | Tales from the Concert: King Gizzard | BienVenue: The Lily Pad

    We’re excited to have Jackson back on the show this week, and he’s pumped to be here! He’s got some songs to share that he’s discovered on his new Spotify account before he heads up the road to Mammoth Lake to see Dad perform at a Red Not Chili Peppers show. Songs: Friday Night Funkin’ Vs Cartoon Cat - “Trapped Mouse” Friday Night Funkin’ Vs Cartoon Cat - “RERUNS” Nick & Jay tag team the latest episode of “Tales From the Concert.” They, along with Nick’s gang in tow, saw King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard perform their first U.S. Concert at the Anthem in Washington, DC. It was, by all accounts, an epic show. Songs: Geese - “2122 Live” King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - “The Dripping Tap” Jay followed up that show with a wild weekend in Richmond. He’s been playing with a group called The Ken Demith Collection, and they recently performed a show at The Lilly Pad Restaurant in Richmond, VA. The outdoor restaurant is located in a marina on the James River and the band had an amazing night. Song: Dick Curless - “End of the Road”

    Greg kicks us off this week with a deep dive into the new album by Louis Cole. nothing is a suite of new Louis Cole songs recorded (mostly) live in collaboration with Metropole Orkest & Jules Buckley. It's a really interesting listen and the guys dig in and discuss it. Songs: Louis Cole - Things Will Fall Apart Louis Cole - A Pill in the Sea Louis Cole - These Dreams Are Killing Me Jay discovered a Reddit thread this past week that called out a handful of 'artists' performing AI generated covers on Spotify and reaping in royalties. While it appears that Spotify has removed the artists listed in the post, the circumstance is bound to occur again and poses a serious concern for artists. Song: Frank Sinatra & Count Basie - My Kind of Girl Nick is back and has some catching up to do.     Aerosmith w/ Keith Grasso

    Nick calls in an update from his adventures in Croatia and plays some traditional Dalmatia & Croatian music he uncovered on his travels through Split & Komiza. Meanwhile, Jay & Greg carry on and are joined this week by Keith Grasso. In light of the recent cancellation of their farewell tour, Keith thought a thorough conversation of Aerosmith was in order.
