Welcome to Bike Tales. Season two focuses on Chichester, my home city on England’s south-coast. It’sNOT a cycling city and so in this series we dig deep to find out what’s holding it back and meet some of the people who despite the lack of infastructure still venture out on bikes

Ruth Speed - From Funtington to L’Étape du Tour
Ruth Speed hadn't done much other than childhood cycling and a couple of days on a bike in Milan until a year ago, but next month she is taking part in the gruelling L'Étape du Tour scaling three mountains and 100 miles!
I talk to her about what prompted her great challenge and about how she thinks the roads around Chichester could be improved to encourage people and women in particular to get on a bike more often.

Mark Record - Creative cycling advocacy
Mark Record is a cycling campaigner with creative ideas. He's a science technician at the local college and he created a bicycle-powered karaoke machine to inspire the students and show them the power of bikes and science.
His big ideas also extend outside the classroom to the local cycling advocacy group Chicycle and to thinking about big ideas for the future of transport in Chichester

Gabby Adams - What happened to the cycle highway?
This week we’re on the quest to discover what happened to the cycle highway which was due to be built on the A259 west of Chichester linking the city with the Hampshire town of Emsworth. I speak to Gabby Adams who lives on the road. She has some surprising information about what went wrong and I hear about her own pandemic-related decisions and how she plans to get the most out of her bikes in the future.
