    Sexual Education- Getting the unfiltered truth

    In this episode of In Between the Pages of Life, what was supposed to start off as a discussion about domestic violence quickly turned into a conversation about sexual education. NadiaTheRose and K. Noel invites April Young to discuss sexual education. There are a lot of things that not only children, but adults are uneducated on. April brings clarity to a lot of things that most never knew about their own body or how to have those tough conversations with their child(ren) and why they should have those conversations. Join us on this episode and get enlightened on the topic of sexual education. April Young has over 12 years’ experience in women’s health, is an advocate for reproductive justice and a doula. In the past she has worked with survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking as well as done outreach within the substance abuse community and mental health community.  She is passionate about improving birth outcomes among at- risk populations such as low-income families and people of color. She is currently the program coordinator for a Centering Pregnancy program in North East Ohio and a Doula. April holds a general studies degree with a concentration in Psychology and Gender Studies from Youngstown State University.  She is currently completing a master’s degree in Community Health Education and Promotion at Cleveland State University and looking to return to Youngstown State University and pursue a PhD in Health Care Policy and Epidemiology in 2021. Licensed professional counselor Andrea Horbrook-Walton, Liv, and NadiatheRose discuss the reality of being a minority in America, proper self-care, and how to have hard conversations with-our children about the climate in America right now. She has obtained her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, which she received from Chicago State University in 2016. Andrea is a dual licensed professional counselor. She is also the executive assistant for Black Christian Influencers where she servers the kingdom through innovation and excellence. She has been featured on a local news station for her work in the community and supervises university students on mental health related issues.
